Plans & Pricing

To see which plan your site is on visit My Site → Upgrades Purchases. For more information on plan features and prices, check out our current plans and pricing and plan features pages.

  • Plans are billed monthly, yearly or for two years depending on your plan type. Custom domains are billed annually.
  • Both plans and domains are set up to renew automatically by default for another term.
  • You can manually renew your plans and domains for multiple subscription terms to ensure you have a working site.
  • Plan purchases can only be applied to one site. If you would like to start another separate site, you will need an additional plan.
  • You can turn automatic renewal off at any time if you don’t want your subscription to renew.
  • Automatic renewal occurs 30 days prior to the expiration for yearly plans, and on the day of expiration for monthly plans. Your subscription is extended from the original expiration date.

In the example image, the subscription is set to renew, and payment will be taken on February 1, 2020. If it is not renewed, the subscription will expire on March 2, 2020 (30 days later).

Please see this page for accepted payment methods.

Upgrading Your Plan

You can upgrade your WordPress.com plan by visiting My Site → Upgrades Plans. Click Upgrade below the plan you’d like and you’ll be taken to a page to complete your purchase.

You can upgrade your plan at any time. Credit for the remaining time on your existing subscription will be applied to your upgrade.

Here’s an example when upgrading from a one-year WordPress.com Personal subscription ($48/yr) to a one-year WordPress.com Business subscription ($300/yr) two months after purchasing the WordPress.com Personal Plan (prices are shown in USD):

$300 – ($48/12) x remaining time) = first payment

If you have 10 months left on your existing WordPress.com Personal Plan, you would take $48 and divide that by 12 to get the monthly rate of $4. Then, multiply the monthly rate of $4 by the remaining months in your plan (in this case, 10) to get $40.

Next, subtract the value of the remaining time from the new plan, in this example, the Business plan for $300. Your first payment would be $300 – $40, or $260.

When your new plan renews, it will renew at the full cost.

Pro-rated credits may be used for upgrading your site to a higher plan, not for other purchases or renewals such as custom domains or G Suite.

Refund Policy

Most of our products can be canceled for a refund within 14 days of purchase or renewal, or 7 days for subscriptions with monthly billing. This includes the WordPress.com Personal, Premium, Business, and eCommerce plans, G Suite email licenses, and Premium Themes.

Some products have different refund timeframes:

  • 96 hours for domain registrations and renewals (requires domain cancelation to be eligible for a refund.) See this page for complete information on domain cancellations.
  • 14 days after purchase for paid Quick Start sessions, if they have not been used, or canceled per our no-show policy.
  • Domain redemption fees are non-refundable unless the redemption process fails.

If you used a domain credit to register a domain and request a refund after the 96-hour domain refund period, we will credit the difference between the cost of the plan and the cost of the domain. You will keep the domain and can use it elsewhere, or cancel it so it won’t be renewed next year.

Please visit your purchases to obtain a refund.

Automatic Renewal

By default, a subscription is set to automatically renew to ensure there’s no disruption in your services, loss of features, or loss of your custom domain name. Automatic renewal ensures that everything is taken care of in advance and allows time to resolve any issues with payment.

Your subscription to your plan and/or custom domain name will continue to automatically renew until you turn off automatic renewal or cancel by following the steps below.

  • All yearly subscriptions are set up to be automatically renewed 30 days prior to their expiration by default. Rest assured, your services remain active for the full 12 or 24 months you paid. For monthly subscriptions, it will be auto renewed on the day of expiration.
  • If you have a yearly subscription, you will be notified by email before your card is charged.
  • If automatic renewal is disabled, you still have an active subscription until its expiration date.
  • Subscriptions with automatic renewal disabled can be manually renewed by clicking on Renew Now.
  • Full details on the renewal costs for domains can be found on Domain Pricing.
Turn Off Automatic Renewal

You can follow these instructions to turn off the automatic renewal for any of your subscriptions. Turning off automatic renewal does not cancel the subscription right away. To turn off the automatic renewal, please follow these steps.

  3. Under Subscription Renewal, if you see “Auto-renew is ON” toggle the option to turn it off.

Removing Purchases

Removing a purchase means you are cancelling immediately. Removing the purchase will remove all the features of the plan.

Why would I remove a purchase?

While there are still active plans and domains on your site (even those with automatic renewal turned off), you will not be able to delete your site or close your account. If you have decided you want to completely delete your site, you will first need to remove the purchases from the site.

Subscriptions that have been canceled (automatic renewal turned off) will show a Remove WordPress.com [plan-name or domain] instead of Cancel Subscription.

To remove a plan or domain purchase:

Removing a purchase gives up any remaining time on your subscription and all features are immediately removed from your site.

  1. Select Remove WordPress.com [plan-name or domain].
  2. Fill out a brief survey (to help us improve!) and click Next Step.
  3. You’ll have the option to chat with us, in case there’s anything we can help you with before you remove your plan. Click Next Step.
  4. On the last page, click Remove Now.
  5. For a domain cancellation, you will be asked to choose a reason for cancellation, and to confirm that you may lose the domain forever upon cancellation. Be sure to check the box before clicking Cancel Domain.

After canceling a domain, there is no guarantee the domain will become available to register somewhere else, and you may not be able to get it back. You do have the option to keep the domain at WordPress.com and use it elsewhere. See our alternatives here.

Downgrading a Plan

If you wish to choose a lower plan, please cancel automatic renewal by following these steps. When it comes time for renewal, the old plan will be removed and you can purchase a different plan.

If you would like to downgrade immediately, please contact support.

If you are looking to downgrade from a Business or eCommerce Plan, please contact support. Be aware that downgrading from one of these plans means:

  • You would lose any custom plugins or themes you had installed as well as any premium features not available in the lower level plan.
  • Your site will also revert to the way it looked before you installed the first plugin.

Managing Domains

With the purchase of an annual or a two-year plan, you receive a credit that can be used to register a new custom domain name or transfer a domain you already own to WordPress.com. The domain credit covers only one year of domain registration. Monthly plans don’t have free domain credits.

Domains are renewed independent of the plans and billing information (as well as automatic renewal settings) can be managed through the same place your plans are managed. Please see our Domain Pricing and Available TLDs support page or visit your account’s Manage Purchases page and select your domain name to determine the renewal price.

From your Manage Purchases page, you can select one of your domains to manage its payment options.

renew domain
  • Renew Now will let you renew the domain for another year (adding an additional year to its existing expiration date).
  • Change Payment Method will allow you to choose a new payment method that will be used for automatic renewal.
  • Cancel Domain will cancel the domain and remove it from your account.

After canceling a domain, there is no guarantee the domain will become available to register somewhere else, and you may not be able to get it back. You do have the option to keep the domain at WordPress.com and use it elsewhere. See our alternatives here.
