First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

  1. Hi there. 🙂 This is my first attempt to write a blog.( as most of us here :p) I’ve always been the type of person who would always scatter some words on paper when the thoughts were too heavy. So, the purpouse of my blog as a whole, is to dive into my being,to reflect upon my decisions and to get some lessons that hope will serve other people too. I hope you like it. Criticism is welcome.

      1. Yeah, but I think my English is not really good. 😂
But you still can use Google Chrome to translate my blog to English. 😄

    1. Nice blog. Yes, Google Chrome does help with the translation, but it’s not always accurate. Also, it might be good for you to write in English every now and then to practice and become better. Just an idea.

    1. Great start. I would recommend adding an about page and making the home page only show abstracts instead of the full posts. It might be difficult to navigate when you write more lengthy posts.

  2. School projects are a headache. Not just for school, nowadays, there are projects for colleges and offices too. But with these hacks, you can ensure a good impression on your teacher/boss by your project.

Hacks useful for : Handwritten as well as computer projects…

  4. Hi everyone, I started my blog as a bit of a New Years resolution to do more writing. It’s about my dog and our adventures together in Yorkshire, 🇬🇧 (beautiful county – but then I am a bit biased!!). Anyway, it’s called one girl and her dog and here is the link:

Good luck and all the best to everyone on this thread at the start of their blogging journeys.

    1. I appreciate your willingness to talk about what others often won’t. My only suggestion is to not use all caps in your post titles, it’s a bit distracting. Good job, keep it coming.

    1. Hmmm… your site seems a bit difficult to navigate… I think because you haven’t yet figured out the whole page vs. post thing. I had to click through 3 different things to be able to like or comment.

      1. Great progress! Now, the thing I have an issue with is that – from your Home page, when I click on the title of a post, I am transferred to a page with just an excerpt. And I have to click on “more” to get the whole post. Normally, that should lead to the entire post.
But when I click on “more” on the Home page, it does take me to the post in its entirety. Not sure what’s at fault here…

      2. So I re-did and copy and pasted the parts around, turns out you’re not supposed to do what i did, link pages to posts, but use the read more tag instead which i didn’t know existed until I looked around at some other people’s blogs! hopefully that will resolve all of these issues now!

    1. This is a great start to your blog, I like the introduction. You mentioned something to the gist of 14 year old bloggers not being that uncommon or that someone else thought of it before you.

Here’s the thing, there are quite a few young bloggers, not anywhere near as much as adult bloggers but still a good amount. What will set you apart from them is your blog content. A lot of young teens would never think to blog about patience. That makes you stand out from the rest, in a good way.

Think about your niche and follow others with the same interests, build a community of genuine bloggers that care about what you have to say. If you’re interested in travel, follow other travel blogs. If you’re interested in posts like your one on patience, follow people who write about things like that. It’ll help you tremendously!

Also think about your target audience. Once you get a feel for who you want to reach with your posts, follow similar people in that age group. Since the majority of people on WordPress are adults, think about ways to get your content to reach them effectively too.

All of this shouldn’t change your writing content, continue to express yourself genuinely and creatively. I enjoyed reading your posts, and I’m sure that others will too!

If you want a few good, sound, blogs to interact with that are like yours, just let me know and I’ll give you the links! Keep it up, you’re doing great!

  6. Hello! Recently, I went through a traumatic experience when my neighbor was assaulted and I intervened to help. In the pursuit of self-therapy following this event, I took this experience and shared it with a group of women who hate (trans) women like myself and explained how this experience impacted me as a woman.

The response was to attack and dehumanize me at every angle. Many came to my defense and a great social media battle began. I used the buzz created by it all to advocate for shelters and for the humanizing of both transgender people and transphobes alike with the hopes of building bridges to common ground between the two.

Following all of this, I began my blog to continue the sort of engagement I’d begun with transphobia and to write about both transgender experience and engagement with transphobia in constructive ways.

My first post began my blog with an introspective look into dysphoric life experience:

I hope that you enjoy reading! All thoughts and criticisms are welcomed and will be appreciated. Thank you!

    1. Hello and welcome!

I can’t help but notice that you’re using a lot of tags on your posts. The WordPress.com Reader actually filters out posts that use more than 15 tags and categories (combined) as an anti-spam measure, so using this many tags actually makes it harder for folks to find your work, which is sad! If you cut your tags down to the most relevant, you’ll actually draw more readers. Here are some tips on tagging you might find helpful.
