Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. I think your blog has a clean simple look with a nice selection of post photos. The titles seemed well chosen. But if you’d like to sample other themes, but all means do so and see if you like others better.

The only aspect to your blog home page that wasn’t to my particular taste was your choice in header photo/art. But that has to be personal to you. If you like it a lot, then definitely keep it.

      1. Thanks for your feedback 🙂 . And regarding header shot it’s something that went with soothing, simple and laidback look of my blog for now.But I’m also on lookout for something that describes me better, something that would just click.

    1. Your posts never disappoint. I feel like we could be besties–and that’s just how a blog-reader should feel about a blog-writer, I think. So, I thought I’d get a tad more personal in my latest blog post, in response to a helpful critique from somebody in this pool who said maybe I should try being a little more engaging. Maybe you’d check it out: https://rustbeltgirlblog.wordpress.com/2017/09/02/what-kind-of-place-is-this/

  2. Sometimes I write funny, light-hearted poetry, and I always center the copy and the photo illustrations. When I preview my post, it looks perfect, when I link to it from Facebook or my emails I sen out, still fine, but when I link to it from WordPress Reader, it’s all discombobulated. What am I doing wrong? Here’s a link, or…it might be better to link to it from Reader, so you can see what it looks like from there.

      1. Glad to know it looked okay. When I link to it from the reader page, the copy is on the left, and the photos are centered. I am also a loser in the techy category! 😝 I will check out your blog, for sure!

  3. There are no online support groups for people who have missing family members. I looked. This is one problem where you get to be practically invisible after the investigation is closed.

I’m still new to the blogosphere. I’m using my blog to tell the story of my search for my little sister. I want people to read it, because I hope that my story helps someone.

I want to entertain, but I also want to give people with missing family somewhere they can meet online. Somewhere they can connect with each other and hold each other up. Somewhere they can be understojod. And maybe someone could finally start an online support group.

My story is just a story, but I hope it can help. Please read it: https://modernvagrant.wordpress.com

    1. I think your idea of having a place for people with missing family/friends to meet is wonderful! I don’t personally have a missing friend or family member, but I have taken advantage of online support groups of various kinds, and was appreciative of them.

I looked at your blog and couldn’t find such a resource. Are you going to set it up? Or did I miss seeing it? One thing I noticed was that your posts only have photos on your homepage (title page). It would have been great to see the titles along with the photos on the tile page instead of numbers. Numbers don’t really mean that much to me.

I don’t have any kind of forum set up on my blog, but I do have a Mental Health Resources section at the top of my blog homepage. I could see a forum link being there or through a widget on the side bar. Or maybe someone with even more website savvy (or you) would have a better idea.

    1. I’m so sorry to hear about your losses and how much pain and despair they caused you. I hope you know it takes a special kind of bravery and courage to not only write about those experiences but to show them to the world. I hope this action has helped in the healing process as you go about your days with your loved ones in your heart.
As long as you never forget them, they’ll never truly die.

    1. Overall, your site is attractive. I read your lastest post. I haven’t read fiction for years, because I need the time for non-fiction. Your words helped me remember some of the things I like about fiction. I enjoy your writing style. There is one thing you might want to consider changing. The non-word “coz” seems out of place in an otherwise well-crafted post. https://gracelead.co

    1. Other than a few minor grammar/spelling errors, your blog is lovely! I commented on your poem, and I hope you keep up the good work as it’s gained you a new follower.

  5. Hello all!

I would really appreciate it if people could have a look at my latest post for some general feedback. Its called “Decoding dreams: the science behind dreaming” and it looks at the history behind the study of dreaming and some of the more recent theories.

    A couple of other things…
    1. Does anyone know how to get just the featured image on your post to show on the wordpress reader? At the moment, it shows all the images in the post next to each other and it looks.. well.. messy

    2. If anyone has any interesting sciency questions that have been bugging them lately, let me know! I’ll see what I can do about it :p

    Thanks!

    1. Your post was an informative summary of the history of dream studies. I continue to appreciate your quirky humor woven throughout your posts. For me, the Carl Jung photo overlaid part of the text making a few words unreadable. Thanks again for some science on the side. https://gracelead.co

      1. I’m afraid I’m no expert either! But I’d be happy to help if I can! I’d agree that blogging is different to writing. I guess people will read your posts but they’ll keep coming back for your personality and your views (I think thats probably why blogs that are divisive seem to do well). I like the post from today though, it makes you think a bit, which is never a bad thing

  6. Hello and happy Friday, divers!

I just posted a new prompt, so feel free to drop by and take your chance to grab some free inspiration while it’s fresh from the keyboard. For anyone who’s looking for a few more, there are plenty of resources for readers on my blog.

Also, if anyone wants to submit something for me to read based on one of my resources or prompts, I’d be happy to give some feedback. Who knows? I might start hosting some contests. Either way, have fun, and create something wonderful!
