Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hello Everyone,

I started with a blog a few years back and have been struggling to engage readers ever since. I would be glad if you would shed some light on the kind of design I need to maintain along with your kind suggestions on improving my traffic flow and the blog layout.

Presently I have 200 followers and I barely receive 15 views per day. Your warm comments and suggestion are welcome.

      1. Thank you so much for your advice. I have made some changes in the menu. Hopefully it will help a bit.

You have got a good web blog. Just an observation- bring up a “contact” menu. This will help you in the long run.

Rest it is simple and elegant. Perfect for a blog.

        Best regards,

  2. So today actually wrote two different poems using the same prompt mainly because I wasn’t a fan of the first one, but I made a promise to myself I’d post whatever I do as it’s part of the learning process and later down the line I can come back and either reuse the foundation of what I’ve written or something,

    Anyway here’s the other one;
What’s in the box? Let me introduce you to my friends.  – Individual expressions of a naive mind.

Using film culture in a title it’s like my shame doesn’t exist.

    Peace out fellow bloggers.

    1. I really like your blog. Its layout is very nice, the pictures and everything. And yup as said already, put some more info in about section and make it as interesting as your blog.

    1. From one exasperated academic to another (albeit in a different field), I think what you’ve got is a really cool idea. It’s difficult to get people into something which is seen as ‘dry’ so the humour really helps. Only thing I’d say is it felt like I was scrolling a lot to get to the text as the pictures are pretty big. But it’s a really awesome focus for a blog

    2. hahahaha, you really got me there, I thought it was going to be some sort of serious writing but it turns out you just make funny remarks about the classic pictures. Great blog. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    3. Hello.

I like the name Exasperated Academic but I don’t have a clue what it means lol.

I have the similar opinion to Some Science on the Side. I think some of the images are overpowering. This is a blog not a zoomed photo lol

I have an example used in my recent blog when I went to York. You might want to look at the link below or you can find other blogs on my site if you wish.

I noticed on some of your blogs, I didn’t find a comments box on the bottom of the page, that might be something I would suggest to collect feedback from readers?

    4. I like the mix of interesting photos, all new to me, and the feisty narrative. Based on the George Romney painting, I wonder if he was insane. I was fascinaed by the book bindings. They are works of art. It would be fun to see them up close and in person. You must have adjusted the photo size since “Some Science on the Side” suggessted it. For me, the scrolling was easy and I could easy maintain the connection between the photos and narrative. https://gracelead.co

    1. OMG… the illustration and expressions that you have is really on point, I think I will cut down on sweets also. I particular love the post where you spread the awareness of your experience of being followed, and your posts are really well thought. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

      1. Yeah it kind of was. I am in pain! The area is no longer bleeding which is good. I was on so much medication yesterday it felt terrible but I am coping a lot better today. I hope the pain will gradually wear off! Thanks for asking!

      2. I’m glad your feeling better 🙂

I remember when I had great pain on my wisdom tooth, I remember only eating on one side of my mouth and I had a lot of trouble chewing as well but truth is, I didn’t have any medication and I didn’t have my wisdom tooth taken out. Living with pain is never easy but I got through it.

    1. Wonderful, your picture is on point, although I am not a photographer, it is very nice. Really love the way that you bring out your posts, especially your take on selfishness, really insightful and eye-opening. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    1. I like the balance of photos and narrative. I enjoyed all the photos. For those who enjoy looking at photos but aren’t in the photo biz, it would be helpful to have the initialisms such as HDR explained. You could put a link to a definition of each one or spell out the term in parenthesis. https://gracelead.co

    2. For me, I am not a photographer or whatsoever but I think your photo needs some improvements, I mean some of the photos are not that good, but I can see your effort is there, some of them are really good, especially the tripod one, really cool shot. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

      1. I think I understand, you’re not a fan of HDR. It’s what’s known as Marmite style in my country. You either love it or hate it, that’s OK thanks for the feedback. 😀

    1. Wow… You are a living miracle, love the grace of His working in you, and your write-up of your first post is really good, you are really good with your words. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    1. Wow… I love your take on the follow back thing, it is really annoying when I meet such bloggers, it is like you are selling your dignity in exchange for views (a little bit of exaggeration) but you get my point, I mean if your blog is good, readers would eventually smack that follow button eventually. And your insight on the procrastination is quite well-written, very insightful. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

      1. 😂@ exaggeration. I get your point. Exactly, your blog will speak for itself. I am more interested in lifestyle/ personal blogs so I tend to gravitate to those more obviously. Thank you for your feedback.

    1. Wow… Really a different blog, your ideas are really fresh and invigorating, your writings are short but packed with punches and filled with intrinsic meanings. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

    1. Haha it is quite the question, firstly you need to interact more with your readers, and comment more on other people’s blogs. Number two, you need to brush up with your post structure, I mean it is quite messy in my opinion, no offense, but maybe there are other people who likes your style, who knows? However, just take a look at your posts after you post them, ask yourself what can be improved? A little footnote, your about page is in need of info, there is a text widget at the top right of your blog, all of those could be edited by pressing the customise button on your blog. Hope to see more from you. Have hope, write on!

  4. Hello, Bloggers!

Last week on Thursday, I had an unusual experience. I woke up early as I normally do. I was full of positive energy, big smiles and feeling oh so good; I even shared on my Instagram. Hours later, all my plans started to take a different turn. I got super messy, and things got crazy to a point I had a meltdown. I was having a stressful day. On my new post, I am sharing how to deal with such days. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!!

    Have a lovely Friday!!

    1. Your post is filled with vivid description and sets the scene well. You are highly expressive. It would help visually to have a blank line between paragraphs, to give our eyes a break from what looks like one big block of text. In a few places, you might consider a little variety in sentence structure. For instance, (1) “I heard the crushing sound of the grass beneath my feet as I… ” could be, “The grass crushed audibly beneath my feet as I…” (2) “I noticed the grass sway to and fro in rhythm…I was engulfed in the silence of the forest.” could be, “The grass swayed to and fro in rhythm…The silence of the forest engulfed me.” https://gracelead.co
