Post a Day Participants Have Much to be Proud of

Last week we asked you guys to tell us how your Post a Day / Post a Week progress is coming along, and how it feels to have completed two months of the challenge. Your responses blew us away — you guys are really kicking butt! Congratulations and keep up the great work!

Here are some of the comments you shared:

“I have written more in two months this year than I did in six months last year.” – Jim Adcock

“Daily blogging has helped me go deeper into my writing and to better connect thought dots. I sort of view it as a public journal — and it’s helping me find my voice.” – Patbean

“In some of my first posts, I wrote about my reluctance to sit down and write. That reluctance is gone and I post every day, usually 250-350 words. The writing is much faster and even more enjoyable than before.” – Zol H

“I knew that other responsibilities (AKA “real life”) would prevent me from posting daily, so I signed on for Post a Week with plans to post more often when possible… and I’ve enjoyed it immensely.” – Margaret

“There are good, and there are bad days. All in all, a wonderful experience thus far. And I’ve met some really awesome bloggers who are onto this challenge as well.” – Genn

“I have unintentionally started doing a post a week. I had no plans for it, but it’s just kind of happened. The results are higher traffic on my site, and more interaction with the community. It’s been lots of fun!” – B.C. Young

“Two months ago, I barely could remember how to get to my dashboard…My teens cheer and tell me to give myself a gold star. :)” – Katharine Trauger

“I’m having so much fun writing I’ve started a second blog just for photography.” – Alexy Saltekoff

“The best part of this whole thing is meeting new people. The interaction with the other bloggers is what makes it so much fun!” – Kattsby

“I am enjoying that the process gets a little easier with each passing day…I am thrilled that my readership has tripled. I am happy that I have made a commitment and I have been sticking with it, despite the hurdles.” – Masaya Mahanta

“The part that is the most fun for me is going through each day with a writer’s eye, seeking out that thing, that experience, that issue or news story that I can comment on in my own unique way.” – Andrew

“At first it was really hard, however after the first month or so it has simply become a habit – something I do everyday like brushing my teeth.” – Mlovergaard

“In January and February I’ve had more visits to my blog than I did in all of 2010! How cool is that?!” – Ken Cavanaugh

  1. Not only has it made me really think of something to write and blog about every day, but I’ve made so many friends already through the Blogging Buddies post you had a while back. It really helps when you have a few friends/readers to keep the motivation going… I’m so glad that I started in this challenge since I had been wanting to start blogging more often again.

  2. I enjoy writing my blog, I always think of random things to write and it good when you put it all down and someone credits you for that. Or comments and it’s especially nice when your doing journalism in uni. Give you the confidence people are listening to your opinions.

    Great post!
    Jessie.

  3. I started my blog last summer and since then I’ve been posting twice a week, which I find challenging to keep up with. So I can’t imagine doing it daily. My hats off to all of you who’ve made that commitment. Maybe someday soon, I’ll be in your league, but for now, I need to first master, feel good about keeping up with two a week. 🙂

  4. Even though I’m not directly involved in the Post A Day or Post A Week initiatives, I have started posting once a week since the revival of my blog in December. It really keeps me motivated, and since then, it’s brought me to write a series, where I post a “chapter” a day. I just finished Part 6 yesterday and I have the entire series planned out. Surprisingly, it’s also helped me with my time management skills; I post every Tuesday, and I know if Tuesday’s going to be busy, I’ll write most of it Monday and tweak it the day of. It feels so fulfilling!

  5. This is going outstandingly! 😀 I have written more in the last two months than I have in the two years of having the site set up! Linking to Twitter is also helping profoundly. Long may the challenge continue, who said words were dead? They are yet living around us and we each have a story to tell!

  6. I started my blog in Dec 2010. Since then I have done on average a blog every 4 days. Its been an exciting 3 months.
I feel I dont have time to do a blog a day. If I go about doing a blog a day, I would not do justice to the content of the blog – as I want to maintain a certain standard in each blog.

  7. I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but in the picture on top of your page the Y-button is swapped with the Z-button. What’s up with that?

  8. I have posted once a day for 737 consecutive days, no interruptions. The past two months would have been average for me if I didn’t have school projects to finish up.

  9. I confess that I opted to post about three-four times a week, which averages out to every other day. I felt that once a week was not enough, every day too much for me. It’s working, but about what I was doing before. Life does tend to get in the way for me to post every day, and still make it thoughtful and worth reading. Unfortunately, there’s no badge for Posteveryotherday 2011.

  10. Initially, I began with the PostADay challenge, but found it difficult to consistently turn out the quality of articles that I enjoy writing. As a result, I’ve decided to maintain my commitment to honing my craft via the PostAWeek challenge. Needless to say, I’m very pleased with the content, and its ability to provoke more thought and substance on a deeper level. I couldn’t quite get into the journaling part of blogging that may have been required for the PostADay. This has been a very exciting journey for me. I’m always jotting notes for writing, and I feel so much more attuned to the process of writing as a fluid one.

  11. Good on you for those who have the time to post a day. My mum scolds me for posting a week as it is saying it’s a waste of time. But I seem to have got more readers than last year when I posted maybe twice a month or so.

  12. Hi ,
I started a project kind of for myself, aimed at posting a blog everyday. I started on 8th Feb 2011. So far if i have missed a day I post two blogs the next day.

I call this project “Get A Life: Stop Cribbing, Start Living”.
This was a pleasent finding that folks at WordPress have started a similar drive.
For me the whole idea was to get out of the rut “office-home-family”. Get new thoughts , connect with people. It’s been going good so far.

I blog at “http://sbhagwat01.wordpress.com/” and call it “Life Is Like That”

It’s good to get to know of this drive.

  13. The Postaweek challenge is ideal for me, mainly because I don’t have time to do the Postaday. My monthly visits have increased month-on-month since December. As someone else has mentioned, the link to Twitter is very useful. I am finding that everything I hear, read or see gets considered as a possible post subject – does this make me obsessed? I think it does.

  14. I posted every single day throughout 2010, so I’m not doing it this year. It was extremely hard work, but also extremely worthwhile! What I found most difficult was preparing for going on holiday when I knew I wouldn’t have web access – twice during the year I had to spend two weeks writing two, or even three, posts a day to cover the absence. The most rewarding part was when total strangers stumbled across my page from tags, and felt moved to comment on what I’d written. Awesome feeling!

  16. To blog or jog? To blog or nod? Blog baby blog.

I am addicted but this addiction will not be overcome in twelve steps.

One day at a time. One blog at a time. Something to say. Say it.

  17. Yes….I love that WP came up with this…great idea. I am doing the Postaweek & it had been a great help to me. Now instead of writing whenever something comes to mind that I think would be good, I try to think of things to write about!

  18. Today will be day 63 for me. I started this project for myself. I’ve incorporated a “J” a day artwork into my posts as I felt the need to step up my art game. Not only am I enjoying the interaction with other bloggers, but I am actually creating more art faster. I am going to celebrate my 65 day mark with a giveaway and will probably do that all along this journey. It’s been such a cool experience so far. I’m even talk to people about the possibility of auctioning off the “J’s” and giving all of the money raised to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital here in Atlanta. I’ve never done anything like this before but I’m believing that it’s possible and it would fill me with joy if I was able to help even one child through my art. Thank you so much for this idea wordpress! It has changed my life in so many positive ways!

  19. I absolutely love PostAWeek!!! I was nearly ready to give up on blogging entirely just two weeks after the blog’s birth – but then I found this. Though *cough* “Real Life” *cough* gets in the way of me posting every day, the once a week challenge was perfect! It’s a simple goal that keeps me motivated, but doesn’t make me feel over-pressured.

  20. I just started but I’ve done pretty well so far. I missed a day yesterday but if you read my Tuesday post you’ll understand why. So I’m doubling up today. But its a wonderful way to practice a little writing everyday!

I DO enjoy writing every day, though it takes up all of my free time which is little with crazy newly 1 year old twins + 2, but it’s an outlet and one I love, and just enjoy sharing with others, cracking jokes, making others feel good and feel like they can relate to somebody, and helping others in the process, in the way of my own experiences and in informative articles. I also do reviews.

My husband encourages me to SKIP a day, and write every other day. He insists that search engines that crawl, I don’t know if he meant my site or what have you, will not keep up with such frequent posts and I am doing myself a diservice, yet I’m getting nearly 1/2 a million page views a month after 10+ months now, so I think it’s going well. I wish more people left comments, but at least I know they are coming, and most are staying awhile.

I guess I like to leave comments now..when able to, because it’s a way of showing love to a fellow blogger. I have a greater respect now for what goes into a blog, and want to be a good sport, as I know how hard you work, so why not take a moment out to comment?

I wouldn’t mind taking part in the challenge as well, eventhough I really already am. It is a good motivation for those who do let things slide, which hey…we’re all human!! I tend to not believe my husband that it’s doing me more harm then good. When the numbers go down, maybe I’ll believe him, but I hope that won’t ever happen.

Thanks for listening and keep up the great work all you fellow bloggers out there. Much respect to you all! xoxo Shelly
