Jetpack on Plugin-Enabled Sites

Our Jetpack plugin is automatically installed on all WordPress.com sites to give you essential features that secure, speed up, and grow your site. This guide lists the features included with Creator and Entrepreneur plan sites. See our Jetpack on WordPress.com guide for additional features available on all plans.

About Jetpack

One benefit to hosting a website on WordPress.com is that your site includes all the essential features you need to run a site, so you don’t have to deal with the hassle of picking and choosing what you need to keep your site running smoothly and securely.

Our Jetpack plugin is pre-installed so you can concentrate on your site’s content while we take care of security and delivery to all your site visitors with the best performance in the world.

Daily Backups and Restores

Jetpack will take a full backup of your site every day. In addition, Jetpack also does incremental backups whenever something larger changes on your site, like installing a new plugin, for example.

Use any backup to restore your site to a previous point in time, ensuring your site’s content is always safe no matter what.

Plugin Auto-Updates

Forget about time-consuming plugin updates and let Jetpack update your plugins automatically when updates become available.

Security Scanning

Security on plugin-enabled websites hosted with WordPress.com is handled by Jetpack Scan. There is no need to purchase this feature separately; it is included with your plan. You can read more about how we protect your site in our dedicated security guide.

Jetpack Scan reads the content of plugins and theme files to find vulnerabilities and security threats like malware. The Jetpack Scan service also scans files uploaded by the site’s users to ensure everything is safe.

Can I Deactivate Jetpack?

Sites hosted on WordPress.com cannot deactivate Jetpack or Akismet since doing so would break your access to your site and remove the essential features it provides. Jetpack is automatically managed so we can continue to ensure your site’s ultimate security and performance.

If you are facing an issue with another plugin on your site, you may be advised by the plugin’s developers to disable all plugins, including Jetpack. Jetpack is unlikely to cause issues; therefore, you won’t need to deactivate it.

However, you can deactivate specific features of Jetpack that you believe may be causing a conflict. To do that, take the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. On the left side, navigate to Jetpack → Dashboard.
  3. Scroll to the bottom, where you can find the Modules option. Click this to view a list all Jetpack features with toggles to enable or disable each module:
Jetpack Modules link in the footer of the Jetpack dashboard.
  1. Click the Deactivate button next to any module in the list.
    • To deactivate multiple modules at once, tick the box next to each module, then select Deactivate from the Bulk Actions dropdown at the top of the screen.
