What happened to WP Admin/Dashboard link?
-
One a side note — why have we (forum moderators) not been notified of these changes on the moderator P2? A user in the german forum reported similar problems and I had to research this over here to help him/her out.
A short note in case you remove/change/add features or similar actions that affect a lot of users would be very helpful and save a lot of research work.
Me too, in the spanish forum.
An example (there are a lot): https://es.forums.wordpress.com/topic/no-puedo-acceder-al-wp-admin?replies=4
Cheers.

@galois, thank you for the feedback. The best way to help these users is to do exactly what you did and guide them to add “wp-admin” to their URL when it is necessary. You might also ask them what they are trying to do? In the case you linked, they just said they wanted the old link but didn’t say why or talk about what their goals are. Do you think they could have found what they needed in the new admin pages if they had some help with that?
-
@designsimply: I really do not know. Maybe that user prefers the old/classic editor (like me). ;)
-
auntyclare:
Thanks for mentioning. Quick edit feature in posts lists should be there – when we need only to edit taxonomy, dates and status of publication, even just the title or tag line, but not the post itself.
-
I still haven’t seen anyone in WP explain why they’ve kept the link for old blogs but removed it for new.
I can’t see it being a technical reason or surely it wouldn’t be there for the older blogs. And surely it can’t be a major effort to put it back for everyone?
-
auntyclare:
I guess you are right guessing above that it is a move to gradually shift everybody to the new admin area.
-
If it helps, all of the mobile apps have been like the newer admin area for a while now, and as we transition WordPress.com to make everything more consistent, having two different interfaces was confusing new users.
So newer users aren’t seeing a link to WP-admin, but everyone is still welcome to go there directly if they prefer it.

@velda: My specific feedback is what I wrote earlier.
That’s why I put the quotation here:

Oh, we got that. I was referencing this:

If there are specific things you see a lot of let us know!

Thanks for that. If you can add a “contact form” (or “formulario de contacto”) tag to related threads, we’ll be able to track the demand for that. Just let us know what tags you decide to use.
The issue mentioned in the other thread will be resolved shortly. Cheers :)

Just let us know what tags you decide to use.
Both: contact form & formulario de contacto.
Thanks, Velda. :) -
I am a brand new user and just spent two hours trying to figure out how to access the WP-admin through a link. Users helping me could not figure out why I had this issue. After about 20 comments, someone finally figured out that new accounts do not have this link.
Reading the above thread, I agree with disgruntled users: why make it difficult to quickly link to Admin? And why not inform everyone when such a big change is made? The Dashboard is an important hub for busy blogs and to have to bookmark or type in the URL is a ridiculous step, and I can think of no other internet site where vital administrative functions aren’t quickly accessible by the administrator.
Please add this back for new accounts.
-
We’re working to add the most-used functions to the new dashboard first, and we’d really like the new tools to be used more so that we can focus on them and improve them. Would you mind letting me know which functions you are missing the most from WP Admin? I can make a note of those for you.

I used to have a wordpress blog and came back and starte a new one a couple of years after shutting it down. I don’t think I’ll be sticking to wordpress if this is a sign of what is to come. I always thought that wordpress was the easiest to use but I’ve been spending the better part of my blogging time trying to figure out how things work and it’s not working at all.
Please restores the WP admin link. The new update is counter intuitive and just tedious. If this is how it’s going to be you’ll probably be losing a lot of bloggers. I just bought a domain and i’m thinking of leaving wordpress for some other hosting. -
Hi booksandstrips, can you tell me a little more about what’s not working at all? Maybe I can help?
-
In the new dashboard: If i want to use the widget Links there is no menu for adding links to the widget. Where can i find that????
How an i use this widget now? -
And another one: how can i add a image to the widget Image if you can’t acces the medialibrary. I am working with the new dashboard.
