Using Reusable Block

  • When I create blocks using Reusable Block and start writing text in it, the contents of all blocks start changing at the same time simultaneously. How to keep main Reusable and next Blocks without change?

  • Hi there,

Reusable blocks are designed to make it easy to edit text in more than one location.

That said, if you would like to edit a specific block, you can convert this to regular blocks by following the steps below:

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/reusable-block/#convert-to-regular-blocks

    Hope that helps!

  • Thanks!
Unfortunately, I still have some difficulties: How to convert Reusable Block based on empty Layout grid (without any text or elements inside) to Regular block?

  • One more question: I thought the Reusable block is a template. I am wrong?

  • Hi there,

How to convert Reusable Block based on empty Layout grid (without any text or elements inside) to Regular block?

The link @rbgly gave above has a short animation showing the steps to do that. If that’s not working for you, can you point me to the specific post/page/reusable block you’re working on on your site? You can just share the dashboard/editor link here.

One more question: I thought the Reusable block is a template. I am wrong?

The reusable block isn’t a template, as in a blank slate you just fill in, no. A reusable block is a way for you to replicate the same layout and content in multiple places. For example, if you look at the support page at https://wordpress.com/support/widgets/calendar-widget/ you’ll see a little info-box at the top. That same infobox appears on a number of our widget support pages, and we used a reusable block for that, rather than typing the same content on each page.

It sounds like you’re instead looking for a block pattern. That’s a preconfigured arrangement of different blocks to create a particular layout, which you can then fill in with your own content.

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/block-pattern/

At the moment it’s not possible to create your own custom block patterns, but we have a number of existing patterns you can insert into your posts.

If you’d like something custom, you can use a Reusable block as a block pattern, but then you’d need to convert the reusable block to regular blocks each time before you start adding content to it.

Let us know if you have any more questions about this.

  • Thank you for your time!
Unfortunately, I still have some difficulties.
In the end, I want to make a big table, shown in the front page – https://ubmn.wordpress.com/
And change column width, add rows and etc.
What is best way to do a table?

  • Hi there,

You can use the Table block to create a table for your site. You can find the documentation for that block here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/table-block/

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.

  • Hi,

My problem is almost solved. In the end, I have one question: Is it possible to split table block by row (like in Microsoft Word)?

Thank you for your time and patience!

  • Hi there,

No, there isn’t an option to split a table. You’ll have to manually do that. Here’s a quick workaround:

    1. Select the rows you want to split

    2. Copy them (Ctrl+C or Cmd+C)

    3. Paste them in a blank area below

    4. Use the delete row option to remove the rows from the original table

    Hope that helps!

  • Hi,
I learned a few important things for me. I realized that I can use the copy block function instead of trying to use reusable block as a template
    Thanks!

  • Updated.

    Hi,
I learned a few important things for me. Also I realized that I can use the copy block function instead of trying to use reusable block as a template

Thank you for your time and patience again!
