Using old editor
-
I can use the old dashboard, but I’m sent to the new editor instead of the old one, is there any way round it to get back to the old editor.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
The Classic Editor will continue to exist in wp-admin. We know some users prefer to use this editor, so we want you to have access to it, instead of phasing it out with the new version of the Dashboard. However, a link to the Classic Editor will not return to the New Editor. From: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/when-editing-an-old-post-how-do-i-switch-to-the-classic-editor?replies=5#post-2316097
You can access the classic editor at Dashboard > Posts > Add New
Here’s the list of workarounds all in one place:

The top highlighted link says no-one can use it.
I downloaded Trixie for IE but don’t now what to do with it.

You can access the classic editor at Dashboard > Posts > Add New

@dribblingpensioner
Of course the link to another person’s blog will not work for you. Here is the model so you can see the format

I think I posed the question wrong :) I can get to the old editor using your method that’s not a problem, but when I click edit on a post on the front page it sends me to edit in the new edit which I don’t want.

I tagged this thread for Staff to explain this to you. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

We have recently changed many of the edit links you see on your site to point to the New Editor instead of the Classic Editor. For example, if you use the Edit link beneath the posts on your home page like this one:
You will be directed to the New Editor. This is unable to be changed. If you would like to use the Classic Editor, you will need to use the Posts -> All Posts menu shown here:
From that page, you can use this Edit link:
That will direct you to the Classic Editor!
-
Thanks Jeremey, so its what I thought, we are stuck with this stupid editor when we click edit on posts.
Am I correct. -
Hi,
Yes – the Edit links beneath your posts will continue to direct to the New Editor. If you could elaborate on specific what elements you find difficult, happy to pass along your feedback/help to see where the sticking points are!
-
A few authors do not know how to get to the old editor, when in the new one their names do not appear, but I have added them in the old editor, that’s the one I use, so they are not transferring over.
For instance the name Rellick, if you go to the blog below and categories you will see how many names there are but in the new editor there are only about 15.
-
@jeremeylduvall, the sticking points is the whole new editor. It is hard to read, too crammed, does not have the same features and is buggy
there were 30 pages of complaints on this thread – now closed – https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/please-reinstate-the-option-of-choice-to-use-the-old-publishing-format/page/32?replies=941
and it seems that many of the issues were not responded to.
-
@ cbiancardi, what you say is true and you will find me on those 30 pages :)
But it looks like we are stuck with the new one, so I’m just trying to fix things that aren’t right with my blogs, as I have to edit a lot of posts.
-
@jeremeylduvall, you wrote
You will be directed to the New Editor. This is unable to be changed
why? We were allowed to change it earlier, when the link was there. What exactly has “changed” that this feature is no longer possible. As I am a developer myself, anything is technically possible, especially since this was a feature previously.
-
Over a year of Staff time have been devoted to this project of developing an in-house editor, new my sites page, notifications page and stats page. It seems likely that those and other features will be eventually married so we can mange multiple blogs from the same pages and access them with multiple devices.
Perhaps Staff may believe that restoring the classic editor link to the new editor would defeat their purpose or interfere with the integration.
Perhaps we have reached a juncture where disgruntled end users like me will have to accept that reality and move on, as there is no requirement for Staff to provide a rationale for any feature changes or for any Terms of Service changes.
-
-
@ TT, like you I am a disgruntled end user who has realised we are not going to get it back nor the link, so all I’m asking for is help with my problem on one blog and it looks like I might get a solution because I don’t think they thought about this problem.
-
The edit links below posts will not direct to the classic editor. However, if you go here and do what I do you won’t have any issues using the classic editor when editing posts. > Dashboard > All Posts
https://dribblingpensioner.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.phpHover over the title of the post you want to edit and then click the edit link that appears when you do that.
-
@TT I will, just noticed it in another post here to-night where you give that advice, thank you.
