Site inactive

  • I have a website that a company built me about three years ago I just found out it’s inactive
    The website is http://www.mainecleaningsolutions.com
The host who has it now doesn’t want to host anymore and he has no idea what he’s doing and the company I hired is out of business now. So I’m left clueless on what to do because i spent a lot of money for them to do the website.

  • Hello there,

Thanks for reaching out, and you’ve come to the right place as we can certainly help with getting the site organised.

To provide some context, there’s two types of WordPress. The first is WordPress.com, whereby we provide provide daily backups, updates and a 24/7 support service.

The other is self-hosted WordPress, which is where the open source version of the software is downloaded from WordPress.org and installed on a server. The main differences between the two can be seen here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Currently, http://www.mainecleaningsolutions.com is using the self hosted version of the software, and using a theme called Divi.

The host who has it now doesn’t want to host anymore and he has no idea what he’s doing and the company I hired is out of business now.

I would recommend moving the site to WordPress.com, and we can certainly help and take you through the steps with that.

In order to move a site over to WordPress.com, there would need to be a business plan in place, as this will allow for the use of third party themes and plugins.

Once purchased, you would need to ideally follow these steps to move the site: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-an-entire-wordpress-site/#import-from-self-hosted-word-press

Can you tell me if you have access to the site via: http://www.mainecleaningsolutions.com/wp-admin/ – ideally this would be required for any kind of site migration.

This won’t disrupt the current live site, and the site here at WordPress.com would be held under a temporary domain.

Once the migration is complete, then you would need to then either connect the domain to WordPress.com, or transfer the domain to WordPress.com.

Do you have access to the domain settings at the domain registrar?

I’m hoping this helps with next steps, and I’m positive we can help you get the site back into your own hands. :)
