Reduce header

  • How can I reduce the header in the the free theme Karuna?

  • Hi,

On Karuna, at Customize > Header Image you’ll find a note that says:

Your theme works best with an image with a header size of 2000 × 800 pixels — you’ll be able to crop your image once you upload it for a perfect fit.

    So the steps would be:
    1. At Custom > Header Image click the “Add new image” button.
    2. Choose an image from your media library or upload a file.
    3. Click the “Select and crop” button.
    4. Crop the image as desired and then click the “Crop image” button, or choose the “Skip cropping” button.
    5. Save an publish the new header image by clicking the “Publish” button.

Note that the Quick Specs section of the Karuna theme guide says:

The custom header appears at full-screen width with flexible height.

You can make a full-width image shorter without losing resolution, but if you make it thinner, then the theme will either automatically stretch it to full-width, resulting in a distorted, low-resolution image, or possibly reject the edit (I had both results in tests.).

  • You can also create an image of reduced height elsewhere, or crop an existent image using other software such as MS Paint, but the width should still be 2000 pixels or more.
