First Friday

Brand new blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, say hello to other new faces, and find your first few readers.

For other help:
If you’re not new and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

For technical questions, visit the WordPress.com Support Forums.

To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.
  • When commenting, avoid copying and pasting the same response repeatedly. It makes it look like you’re not really paying attention. Not to mention, it’s spammy.

  1. Hi
I’m hoping I still qualify for this post – I only just discovered it during the week while I was trying to find my way around a little.
I’ve set my blog up for an assignment, but I hope to keep writing after I’ve finished my course. Here’s my first real blog post.
    Thank you for reading 🙂

  2. Hey! I’ve decided to tryout this blogging thing and as I am obsessed with travelling and have a lot planned this year I’ve finally decided to start my own travel blog!

Here’s a link to my first post about my time Teaching in India! I’d love to hear from some of you about what you think or any tips you might have for me. Hope you enjoy! ☺️

    1. I’ve just liked, commented and followed your blog! All I would say in terms of feedback is to consider removing or customising the generic “The journey begins” post – other than that do not change a thing! You have a great blog!!! 🙂

      1. It’s alright! It’s the one that appears when you start your blog anyway! I left mine on my blog for weeks when I started before someone told me! 🙂 Have a wonderful rest of your day 🙂

  3. Hi, I have a brand new website which is barely up-and-running. I would really appreciate some love, and maybe a follow or two. 🙂 Also, any feedback and/or advice will be greatly appreciated!

As it is on WordPress.org, I haven’t managed to add a follow button. Can anybody tell me if it is possible to add one? There is only the option to subscribe by email. Please don’t let this put you off!

    1. Go to your “My Site” tab -> Under “Themes” hit the button “Customize” -> Go to “Widgets” and find the “Follow Button” and add

Hope this helps! I would say leave both the follow button and the follow by email 🙂

Congrats on your blog and welcome to the blogging world! Now, i’m going to go check it out and follow.

      1. Thank you so much for your advice, and hopefully your follow. Unfortunately the Follow Button does not appear to be an option for .org sites, only .com. I had no problem setting it up on my two blogs, but not on my website.

Unless I’m doing something wrong! 🤔

    1. I really enjoyed your latest post – the ancient wood is glorious. I felt more inclined to read that one rather than the post you linked to. I’ve heard that when writing a blog post, shorter paragraphs sometimes make your writing seem more approachable. It’s just a little tip, but perhaps worth considering.

  4. Hello! This is the link to my first post published nearly one month ago–I’m still considered a new blogger, yeah! I like a clean, minimal esthetic and learning & thinking about daily life in nuanced ways and that’s sort of the aim of the blog but I’m not sure if it comes across. It’s also a way for me to have these convos /make statements about things that are interesting to me at the moment. ALL the feedback please! https://bubblyswish.wordpress.com/2018/03/07/whats-in-a-name/

  5. Hello!! I have a very new and very small soap business and blog!! Please take a look and let me know what you think. Should have more text heavy content, possibly showing the process I use to make my soap, or if I should add more products? Any advice is appreciated!! Thank you tons!!

    1. Hey! Great layout, but you don’t allow comments 😦

From one very single person to another, I look forward to reading your blogs. I pretty much enjoy being single as I am not much of a modern day hook up dater! I look for connection, but I do get what your saying some days you just wonder hmmmm is there really someone out there for me?

Congrats on your blog! You gained a follower 🙂
