Community Pool

Where WordPress bloggers support each other with feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for more information about custom domains, advanced design options, and other enhancements for your blog? Find the WordPress.com plan that’s right for you.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

    1. Great post (as always). As a parent my goal is to let my kids explore. A high school admissions counselor (not for mine–they’re only in 2nd grade) recently said that even Olympic-gold swimmer Michael Phelps competed in various sports all the way through high school. It must be tough to see that your child is gifted–to not push and prime them. Here’s hoping more kids can just be kids. Thanks for the reminder!

      1. Thank you so much for those kind words and your own contribution of perspective. I could not agree more. At age 11 kids are specializing in just one sport thee day and how about kid who are learning violin, 2 other languages and taking colleg coures for no credit just to get a leg up to get into Ivy League colleges. I agree let kid be kids

      1. Hmmmm i’ve seen people doing it, i but never done it myself , but try writing something up in every new post and then put a link to the desired web page.
For instance , your site speaks about trees, write something about it and then link it to your site. When you select a word you can chose to bold it, italic it…. or “link” it. I hope this helps

    1. Before I created my blog, I did some planning. First I decided the purpose of my blog. (What is your purpose in blogging? to share your work as a journalist? to give tips to other writers? to find other bloggers with similar interests?) Next, I scrolled through the available themes that WordPress offers to find one that could accommodate what I had in mind. (Will your site be mostly text, photos, or a combination? Have you thought about the overall appearance that would work for you?) Then, I worked my way through the lessons on: http://learn.wordpress.com/ These steps did take some time; however, I’m glad I did them. https://gracelead.co

    2. I guess the main thing will be to think carefully about what you intend to write / publish – the general subject area(s) as well as perhaps thinking about what your first few posts will be. And then think about who it’s for – do you have a specific readership in mind – and if so how can you best reach them.

      Good luck.

    1. Great post and yes, sometimes it does help to state the most obvious things because its really the little things that come together and become huge obstacles over a long time. Good stuff! Write more “advice” type posts 😀

      1. Thanks! I’ve watched a few tv shows but I haven’t talked about them on my blog yet. I’m hoping to start writing in German on my blog in the next month or two. I’m working on building up the skills (and courage!). Thanks for reading!

    1. I read NBA and I got excited. I love basketball. IT is one of my favorite players, talk about a guy who overcame a lot. Being a guy who is 5″9 on a good days, he’s definitely made short guys believe they can make it to the league. Looking forward to reading more of your posts. Write something on the BEST team in the league! New York Knicks!

  4. Hey everyone! My blog is all about reviews. I primarily talk about movies, both new and old releases. I also like talking about TV with the occasional comic book or graphic novel mixed in. I’ve done reviews for Thor: Ragnarok, Blade Runner 2049, and all seven seasons of Game of Thrones. I would love to have some people check out my posts and get opinions. I’m always looking to improve my writing. I also have a review for Justice League coming later this week so if that sounds like something you’d be interested in feel free to stay posted and check it out.

    1. Maintaining your blog regularly is a difficult activity, trust me I know. I’m presently on my third one. I like your blog, using the daily prompts is a good move because it’ll not only help you think outside the box but give you motivation when you don’t have any. Plus I think the theme matches your writing style so good work!

      1. It is. I often end up losing track and maybe scribble sometimes when I can hold in no longer. So yeah, hoping daily prompts would help. And honestly, thanks a lot for your feedback and for taking time to read through the mess! 🙂

  5. Hello people! I just completed a post on Minimal Kitchen Guide. I have planned it to be a series of three posts. But I don’t know if the things I write and the way I present them actually serve any useful purpose. Is the post appealing to readers? Is it good enough to bring people back to my blog? I would love to have any kind of advice and suggestions.
That is the first post on my blog:
