Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. I just finished a post about me and my siblings taking my parents back to their hometown, Brooklyn, as a celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary. I don’t know why this one was so hard for me to write.

    2. Wow–what a wonderful post. And great photos, too! A fantastic thing you did for your parents. The history/church, etc. made me think of the memoir _Rust Belt Boy_, which I sample in a previous post on my site. Maybe you’d check it out?

  2. Hi!

After creating my blog a few days ago, I decided to go ahead and write another post about something I enjoy and am passionate about- music. I really enjoyed writing this and would be grateful for any feedback, thoughts or other music recommendations as I am still new to the whole blogging thing.

  4. Hello,

I recently came back from a 2 year teaching job in China and I have to say it was great. I did pick up a little of the language while I was over there, but now I’m back in the US.

That being said, I have a WordPress blog where I only blog in Chinese. If I want to blog something, I translate it into Chinese using my dictionary then post it. I see this as a way to make myself use Chinese since I’m no longer surrounded by it. And, I believe using the dictionary will help me increase my Chinese vocabulary.

What do you guys think of this idea? Do you think it will grow into something or fade away?

    1. You know how google translate screws with the language, if you really do want to blog solely using one language only, do it. However, if you really want to blog in Chinese, you should try out Weibo. WordPress is more on US users, and Weibo is more on Chinese users.

Some of your metaphors are interesting and I hadn’t head them before, I assume they are more from your culture? I like the addition of the Chinese adages, for me it makes it more unique and interesting to read! You are very creative!

    2. Your ideas are interesting. In some places, the reading is a bit awkward. For instance, “He thinked that as we have tunnels on earth through which we can reach our destination with ease same is applicable in space.” would read better as, “He thought that just as we have tunnels on earth through which we can reach our destination with ease, the same idea is applicable in space.” https://gracelead.co

    1. Is everything that castle-y structure in England? Love the sunshine in the photos! Sooo pretty. I think that I prefer shorter posts, because my attention span spazzes sometimes, but definitely loved alllll your pretty pictures. 😉

      1. Hehe not everything is as castle-y haha but I wish it was. However, down on the south east coast of England, we have LOADS of castles which are all mystical and magical to look at. I’ll stick to the shorter posts from now. Thanks for reading and commenting, I really appreciate it! Xxx

    1. Really interesting post–especially the lack of verb tense usage in Jamaican Patwois. I wonder where some of those grammar usage (or non-usage) rules come from? I visited your About page–intrigued about where you live. I wonder how Jamaican Patwois changes from Jamaica to NYC, say, or any other place where there’s a sizable population of Jamaicans.

      1. Thanks, Rebecca for your comment. I am a Jamaican who migrated to the US three years ago. Jamaicans who migrate, often only converse in full Patois, to fellow Jamaicans. When speaking to an individual from another nationality, we often tend to adjust to accommodate their level of understanding to ensure that effective communication takes place. When Jamaicans talk to each other, there may be tell-tale signs to indicate which part of the island each person is from. But usually, only another Jamaican is able to tell the difference.
Each language has rules. In Jamaican Patois, those rules exist, even though most people do not pay attention to them, since the language is not usually formally taught.
        Thanks again for your comment.

    1. Your site looks and reads great. I’m not a self help book reader, but this one I might try, on your suggestion–personal accounts are certainly my entry of choice into this genre of nonfiction. And I love the succinct way you review the book. I’d love it if you checked out my latest post and gave your feedback.
