To learn more about blogging, take a Blogging U. course.

To find, copy, and paste your link:
Head to your blog’s home page — not your dashboard, your blog itself. Click on the title of your post to open the individual post.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar, and paste the entire URL into a comment here.

Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community. To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment.

Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago; ditto for simply sharing your latest post. Posts should have been published within the last month, and should be your first post. We’ll remove other posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.

We ask that you help us keep this space focused by following a few additional guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit a few other bloggers. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Avoid repeated “Follow for a follow!” comments. (Tip: if you’re trying to build a readership, it’s much more effective to visit and comment on individual bloggers.)
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on links to open them in a new tab or window.

    1. Welcome 🙂

I noticed that you still have some placeholder text in your blog’s sidebar, over to the left of your posts — you can remove or edit that by going to My Site > Customize > Widgets. Look for the Text Widget!

      1. Thank you very much! I just read your post, “Take Chisholm” and LOVED it. It would have been a page-turner had there been pages to turn. I appreciate your kind words!

    1. Hi there!! I absolutely adored your post “The in Between.” Wow. It was poignant and contemplative and real and incredibly honest. And you’re right; I think people, no matter where they grew up or their socioeconomic background has these types of issues to some degree or at least in a way that they can relate to. Which I think your post has loads of relatable aspects. I can imagine if this was a bit scary to post as it was so honest. And for that, I have to sincerely thank you for sharing.
Welcome to the blogging community!! I hope you find it enjoyable. 😊💫

      1. Jess, I want to express my thanks for these kind words, and also my aspiration to be as likable as you in my writing. Your blog is unlike any I have seen and I’m thankful I found it through this post. I appreciate the feedback!

    1. Your site looks great. I love the clean layout and simplicity, plus the pictures are integrated into the post well.

On a negative note, I hate the popup. I might be the only one but that’s one of the quickest ways to irk me.

  1. I’ve been blogging for less than a week, and travelling solo in Indonesia since Sunday. In the past week I’ve written this blog about my my chronic illness http://wp.me/p8TDV4-4 and this about my decision to come travelling. I’ve also just published my latest post about how my hostel owner made an unwarranted sexual advance on me, in the dark, on the first night of my travels. It’s been an intense week, but amazing to feel people are reading my blog and can relate to it or feel stronger because of it. I’d love it if you would give it a read! – morethanchronicwanderlust.wordpress.com

    1. Holy hell, you have quite the story to tell. Welcome to the travel blogging world, and especially to the subcommunity of solo travelers and the sub-subcommunity of travelers with disabilities/ilnesses (I have epilepsy and depression and mostly kick their asses). I love your story and the clarity you tell it with.

One drawback is how looooong it is. Looking at a block of text that long can be intimidating. I like the bullet points and how they give the appearance a bit more variety, but also consider using pictures or other visual breaks in the text

    2. there’s a lot going on in your life, hopefully the change in environment will help improve things. Echo the comments above, you can add a read more tag at the beginning of your post so readers can get a flavour of the post before they read on. It also enables more different post to appear on the screen instead of just the one. Take care with the rest of your trip.

    1. Hey Reece, here comes some tough love…

I really liked your take on Charlie Gard. I don’t agree with everything, but you wrote it succinctly and made clear, concise arguments.

The tough love is purely aesthetic and should be easy to fix. Here it goes:
Be careful using your real name (assuming it’s your real name). There are lots of crazies out there. Your text widget and your about and contact pages have the default text but that will be quick & easy to fix. Lastly, and this is purely my opinion, your headline reading “ateenperspectiveblog” is difficult for me to read if I’m just scanning over it — consider putting spaces in, or don’t, whichever you think is best.

      1. Thank you for your ‘tough love’! I appreciate your criticism and I thought that myself about the headline, I’ll get right to fixing it. And about my privacy, I keep my life fairly private, the only reason this has my real name is because I’ll use it to hopefully aide my job searches in the near future!

  2. Good morning everyone! This is such a great idea. I just started my blog the other day as a way to try as be real as possible in a world of social media “perfection”. Writing is a way for me to process my thoughts and identify the root of what’s really going on. I’m not a great writer, but I’m honest, and that’s my whole goal. Stop on by, check it out. Hopefully something I say speaks to you! Happy Friday!!

  3. I’m starting a blog to document my love of Scottish food and cooking. I couldn’t find a university course which covered the variety of aspects I wanted – history, social science, practical cookery and foodie travels, so I’m diy-ing. Would love to welcome you soon.

    1. Hi there! If so find such a university course- let me know- sounds great! Looking forward to reading about Scottish food as I’m sure there are many similarities with the food of my Ulster heritage. Good luck!

    1. Welcome!

FYI: that link goes to your dashboard, which is private, so people won’t be able to see your site. The simplest way to get the public link is to go to your blog’s homepage and click on the post title. Then, copy the address you see in your browser’s address bar and use that.

    1. A nice blog you’ve got going Shreya, the first post is indeed well written. I was expecting an article of sorts when I read your description here but I was pleasantly surprised when I found your poem. I too am a new blogger who writes essays about current and archaic social (and other) issues, would mean a lot to me if you paid a visit.

  7. Good Afternoon everyone. Technically, I signed up for my WordPress account three years ago but did absolutely nothing with it. I let the poor thing languish with absolutely no attention whatsoever. Two weeks ago, I was inspired and finally started to pay attention to my neglected little blog. I have found some challenges to partake of and discovered other blogs to follow. I’m still not sure where my blog will take me, but I’m going to enjoy the journey. https://anotherdaytoremember.wordpress.com/2017/06/30/good-morning/

Hi, my name is Lauren and I started a blog a couple of days back called ‘Everything by Lauren.’ I basically blog about anything that I feel the need to address and the swirling thoughts in my head. I want to share inspiration from my experiences and hopefully, make an impact on someone’s life. Here is a link to my latest post which is some late night thinking I did last night. Hope you can give me a few moments from your day. thank you! 🙂 https://everythingbylauren.wordpress.com/2017/07/14/the-bullshit-i-tell-myself/

  10. Hello everyone! I started my blog around 20 days ago, to express myself on things that cross my mind, and to improve my writing skills, if possible. My first post talks about the homesick feeling I got the day I left home. Writing about it helped me overcome the feeling & move on.
It would be great if you could check it out & give some feedback.
Thanks in advance & hope you have a great time writing! 😀
