Community Pool

Where bloggers come together to give each other feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. It’s a nice piece, but isn’t contemplated by the page. I like simple, and the saying ‘less is more’, but sometimes, there can be too much ‘less’. I think what would really capture your blogging page. A bit more colour, and a close up picture of a favourite item of yours, to make it more personal. With the colours, I’d say, keep the white, white is good (especially for your writing) with a couple more colours. Maybe your favourite, but keep it to a maximum of three!

      Hope this helps!

  1. Hi everyone. I just recently finished the first piece in what I hope to be a future series of short stories that I had a lot of fun with and I put a lot of effort into making it work. I can’t describe the style or the genre—it’s simply something in between realism and sci-fi, except the world that I describe here is more of a symbolic exploration of an alternative dimension. (Maybe?) My natural mode is “breaking rules in writing” and I’d love it if some people could check it out and let me know what they think. I’m new to WordPress and I’d love to find readers for what I write, which is why I started a blog.

  2. My Everyday Nostalgia post this week is all about that “good stuff,” the simple pleasures that we find hidden in the corners of our everyday lives, the things that are scattered and sprinkled throughout our days and make them that much more delicious, delightful, and decadent.

I’d love for you to check it out, and I’d also like to know: What are your simple pleasures? What’s your “good stuff”? 💕

  3. Hey guys, I need a little help with the daily prompts challenge of the daily post. I’ve posted responses to the prompts in the past as well and they always used to show up on the daily post page along with the other responses. But since the last two times, my responses don’t show up there. I don’t understand the problem.
Here’s the link to my post: https://justasrandom.wordpress.com/2017/07/03/the-first-lesson/

Same goes for my comments in the community pool- don’t show up!

  4. hey everyone,

    i wrote a piece today about the privilege of choice – that maybe even more than having lots of things, being rich is largely about the ability to choose – would love some feedback and response;

    1. Those are some good questions. Since we can’t get inside one another’s throughts, it’s easy to take things the wrong way. Have you read the book Crucial Conversations? I have a downloadable summary of it on the Book Summaries page of my site: https://gracelead.co

    1. I’m personally not into fashion blogs too much as I browse instagram for outfit inspiration but I have to say I enjoy your blog as you provide different style examples for each fashion item. You seem to include options for all kinds of style which is nice to meet a wider audience. Your layout really suits your niche and looks elegant but also retains a fun and artistic element,.

    1. The items in your “Goals” drop-down menu – will you be updating them in the future? May I suggest that if you have a blog entry that hits one of your goals or talks about the 14,000 things to be happy about, you could go back to those individual “Goals” items and link to the relevant blog post. That way, the reader (and especially you) can get an idea of what you’ve explored, what you’ve found, and what finish line you’ve crossed.

They’re also really good topics to blog on if you’re short on ideas, too. Writer’s blog is a *serious* pain…

      1. Thank you . I was hoping to Do that anyway but I haven’t really tried to complete any of them yet. Your comment is a much needed shove to get me to finally doing some of my goals and to talk about them. What goal from the list should I Do? I’ll focus on this goal and write the journey up. I’m giving you free range aha.

I love your idea of linking each one and for linking the items off of the 14,000 things. Thank you for your feed back

    2. I think you have the start of a really good blog. I also think that Jonny had a great idea about the goals and, even if you don’t write a post about all of them, it would be great to circle back at some point once you’ve done some.

      1. I’ve replied to Jonny but I’ll update you too. I just haven’t really focused on any of the goals yet. I was motivated to do them but life threw a few too many lemons at me so I’ve fallen off the wagon a little.

Suggest a goal for me to focus on ?

    1. Hi, I enjoyed the post! The food looks really delicious. For your blog have you considered added a menu? This would help readers navigate and find content easier.

      1. Ah! Thank you ! Never thought of it considering I often use it when I’m checking other blogs . I suppose I’m quite myopic when it comes to my own site . You have been incredibly helpful and kind with your words .

    1. Really interesting post! I like that you captured a topic that I’m sure many people think about and are curious about. I definitely use an accent on some words, but completely fail at pronouncing others. At least, as you say, I am consistently wrong!

    2. Your post was interesting. I agree that consistency would be nice. I’ve heard multiple pronounciations for gyro. On the one hand, the way we learn to pronounce words in English is confusing enough without making exceptions for borrowed words. On the other hand, it might be nice to acknowledge the origin of those words. As long as I can figure out what people mean, I don’t worry about the odd way they pronounce things 🙂 https://gracelead.co

    1. That’s a great strategy, combining something you don’t like with something you do like. It appears that has worked quite well for you. I’ve had similar success with that strategy. As with you, I also grew to like, at least to some degree, the previously hated task. https://gracelead.co
