Community Pool

Where bloggers come for friendly feedback and advice.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips and guidelines you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once, as well as for not starting numerous threads in a single Pool.
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother. Also note that including multiple links in your comment might automatically put it in the moderation queue, which will delay its publication.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

    1. Your fonts are too big, make it small and it should not be BOLD… otherwise its nice, have some social media connect on the site.

  1. Hi everyone. I’m quite new to all this and have just started taking my business blog more seriously. I’m trying to offer a business/marketing/copywriting advice blog for those who have little/no experience of marketing or business strategy. Apart from having no decent images yet, is the blog readable and conveying the right messages? Thanks all xx https://thesteelcityhub.com

    1. A home page should have an excerpt of a post rather than the complete post. That would make it more appealing and would invoke the curiosity of the readers to explore more.

    1. Hello)) I really like your blog, the language of yours (I mean the words you go for), it’s easy to read and interesting)) As fot the theme, it’s great, but I’d go for other pictures, cause when you go for original pics, your blog stands out, it has it’s own feel to it, on the other hand if you go for theme’s pics, the only originality your blog has is the text (or the content if you will) So I suggest changing those pics) Everything else is great))
      Have a good day)

  3. Hello everybody. Simon from To Cut a Short Story Short here. I’ve been revamping my menu system and installing drop down lists. Due to the limitations of my theme (Sela) it’s not brilliant but I think it will help. I’d be very grateful for any feedback on ease of use!

Also, here’s a link to my latest story, a true story of a spooky visit I made last year. It’s called If Two Witches Were Watching…

BTW, I run a fortnightly 300 word writing group, details on my blog if you are interested. New members always welcome!

    1. For me, it is easy to use. The dropdown menus make it easy to quickly see a title of something that matches our interests. Overall, your site is well-organized. So far, your site is the only one I’ve seen that categorizes by story length. I think it’s a bonus for your visitors. If they are in a rush, they can camp out in the 100 word category. If they’re in a more leisurely mood, they can opt for the other categories. https://gracelead.co

      1. Hi, thanks so much for checking out my new menus! I know when I visit a site I think ‘I wonder what’s on this site?’ It’s sometimes hard to tell without scrolling through a number of posts of indeterminate length, so I’ve tried to make the information accessible in a number of ways, an index page, a contents page, the category menu at the top, and the drop-down menus, which was a new idea.

Because I’m using the free Sela theme there’s no (apparent) control over the dropdown backgrounds. It would be better to be white on black I think, to give better separation from the text on the page. But anyway it’s hopefully a step in the right direction and I’m pleased you found them usable!

        Thanks again, much appreciated!

    1. Good post! I commented in your blogs post too. If you like, check out my blog too. I write a lot about mental health issues. I have bipolar disorder, so I’m no stranger to anxiety and depression.

    1. Hi Princess Writer. You seem to have a nice theme set up, but I noticed you’ve yet to add Widgets. Some placer widgets appear with filler information. Do you have a post for us to see? I saw one post that looked like a teaser for a post.

    1. I was prepared for a bout of politics induced fury, but I read the post. I like your position on religion and the way people try to monopolize for themselves. Really, it’s all up to interpretation and choice. We can choose to have blind faith in one path or we can choose from many paths to meet our needs as spiritual/religious beings. Thank you for the read!

    1. Welcome back to the U.S.! I hope the adjustment doesn’t take too much of a toll on you. As for writing and running (I speak for the former, not the latter), you can use them both as free therapy of sorts. Exercise fuels your brain to think, even about the subject you may not want to put to paper. Do it anyway because I guarantee (well, may not be full proof) something good will come of it.
      Happy writing!

      1. Thank you for reading. I do consider both running and reading as my therapy. I agree that running does fuel the brain, because most often I have the most wonderful thoughts at that time, I wish I could stop and take notes. I’m gonna keep running and writing and like you said something good will eventually come out of it. Thank you again for reading and taking the time to comment.

      2. Of course! I’m glad I could help. Perhaps you could slow down enough to type something in on your phone or take small writing breaks during your runs. Also, thank you very much for the follow! Feel free to leave feedback anytime.
        Happy trails and happy writing!

      3. I have thought about stopping to write my thoughts down, but I don’t because I’m constantly trying to keep my pace and improve my time. But I should figure out a way to get Siri to help me with taking notes, after all this 2017 and there has to be a way to do both. Thanks again for your feedback.

    1. The colors and the look of the front page are lovely. However, everything else is much too big and bold. The side panel on the right takes away from the main content by drawing too much attention, and the contact page looks strange with the fonts so large. See if you can tone down these things to match the softer images and colors. That way there won’t be so much contrast.
      Good luck!
