Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hi all

    I have two blogs.
One I have recently updated https://beckybofwinchester.com/
The second I am thinking of updating https://delightsofthealgarve.com/

It is the second, the Portuguese one I’d love feedback on. As some of you will have seen from comments I have already made below, I am unsure if boredom is a good enough reason to change it!

In particular I’d welcome your thoughts
    – if you have a photo blog. Does my Portuguese home page capture your attention? If not, what could I do differently?
    – if you are a travel writer. What makes you follow other travel sites. Does my Portuguese one even tempt you?
    – if you are a seasoned blogger what it is about my Portuguese one that works? What should I definitely keep?

Thanks all. Wishing you a peaceful and happy Sunday and week ahead in this uncertain world

    Becky

    1. that’s a good start. I have two suggestions to make it better. first, complete your about page. That is the one page where most people will go to see a little about what the blog is about and who you are. second, I would use the “read more’ that is in the editor..This allows just a few sentences to appear that the reader gets interested in, then they click the read more tag to open the entire post. it makes your front page much cleaner and neater looking. good start though!

  2. Why do I write?

When I see a sculpture I am always drawn to look at it from every angle: walking around it it slowly, looking at it from different angles, helps me to understand it, see its details, and feel the emotions the the sculptor wanted to portray.

This is how I feel when I write. An idea comes to mind. It might seem distant and indistinct but the more I reflect on it the more it takes shape and its details are more clear. Turning it in my mind, thinking about something from different angles, asking and wondering about it, I can understand better what the idea is about.

Putting this idea into words seems to be a natural consequence the way a person might sketch out a picture they see or a sculptor might take a lump of clay and pull and push and form it into what the sculptor imagines it should be.

I need to write. I want to learn to write more effectively for myself but hopefully in doing so others might also read what I have sculpted, understand it and recognize the emotion I have put into it.

My writing is an outlet. Not, hopefully, just to let a thought out, or for someone else to read but rather more like an outlet which a serves a body of water. The the Dean Sea has no outlet and is slowly shrinking. Without an outlet, a body of water dies.

If I do not write I will not improve my skills, I may not understand the thoughts I have, and I may not be able to effectively communicate the emotions that come with the thoughts.

  3. Hey there! Please check out my first “official post” about missing my best friend and the story about us. My previous post was just a starter one! I will share my story within my blog, or anything that really comes to mind. All stories are true, but names have been changed! Any feedback? Please let me know what you think!

  5. Hello, I’m Katherine and I have recently started blogging here on wordpress. I have a fashion and beauty “top trends” blog. I rant a TON and try to be a bit motivational to people a bit shy to show off their personal style. I also have a sort of dictionary of “21st century lang” that I would love suggestions on new words.

And here is my entire blog:

  6. Hi, just posted my newest piece called Saudade.

It’s some emotions I needed to get off of my chest that I’ve been battling, best in the format of creative writing.

I’d love some feedback, or some company if you can relate 🙂
