Community Pool

The place for feedback, advice, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Are you redesigning your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

The Community Pool is for peer feedback and advice. Looking for more specific information? Check out some of these resources:

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

Looking for free, self-guided courses to help you get started with your blog (or revive a dormant one)? Check out our current offerings at Blogging U.

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

Are you a new blogger looking to share your very first post? We have a special forum for bloggers just like you in our weekly First Friday posts.

  1. Hello everyone! I’m Anjali. I introspect and pen down my thoughts. Sometimes, I tell a story, other times I sing verses. Also, I have started doodling. And when I don’t have any ideas, I randomly rant about anything and everything.
Here’s the link to my latest post-
It is about those ‘four people’ who have been unknown to many of us.
My top post that has been liked by most of the bloggers is Types of Readers. The link is as follows –
Feel free to give valuable and much appreciated suggestions and feedback.

      1. Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked my doodle!
Though I’ve just added it yesterday as a whole category dedicated to doodling. I hoping to grow in doodling, just they way I did in my writing skills.

Specially ^^ The society with backward thinking; lead to discrimination; which resulted in fear.^^ This surely will be my whatsapp status and i’ll make sure to give you the credit ! Hope to see more of your work. People like you will change the society one day 😊

I just joined here so i am kind of a new bee too but do check my first blog too hope you like it 😊

    1. Hi Kunal, it’s a very funny and light-hearted poem and little Stanley seems so sweet (not literally, haha;) To make the poem even better I would recommend working a tighter rhythm. Speaking it aloud will help you get a feel and reduce any redundancies. For instance, instead of, “His purpose from then was to play a part in the procreation of life” you might say, “His purpose from then was to procreate life.” It just flows better. Please have a look at my latest post which is also a poem with AABB rhyme scheme. (And I’ll admit, I could tighten its rhythm as well.)

    1. Emma your blog is amazing! The way you write is unlike anything I’ve really seen yet (I’m only relatively new to this whole thing).
I can tell that you have a passion for writing, it really shines through in what you share.

      Great job!

If anyone wants a review of their site, feel free to respond and I will get to it ASAP. If I don’t- it’s due to my day job but as soon as I am able to, I will check your site out for sure!

If you review mine, you will get a review for yours. That’s a promise!

    Talk to you soon!

      1. Lol because in French these means:
Reverie = Daydream (Or something along this line)
        Reve = Dream

You didn’t know that? I was expecting you to be French or someone who studied the language hahaha XD

Pretty cool stuff you got on your blog. Especially that story on the duo hehe. Anyway I realized that you got not “Archive” section. I always tell bloggers to include that so that their readers can refer to their older posts.

Don’t let your readers miss out in case they want to check out your earlier content! Add the section via the widget now 😉

      1. Haha thanks Suze!

So I checked out your blog and I really like your spirit and energy but I encountered a few issues… I couldn’t find a “Blog” section for me to check out your blog posts and there’s no “Like” function for your pages. Is it just me or are they not present lol

      2. I am self hosted so things are a bit…ummm…wonky here. I don’t have a like anymore. it was a widget that was sucking too many bit or bytes or something from the server…and the “blog” stuff are all found under the individual categories..yes, I AM a doofus. Someday I will fix it…as soon as I learn puter.

      3. Got it. Checked out a few of your blog. Your energy can definitely be felt hah! That’s good so keep it up and well, as long as things gets done, I’m sure your blog will be easier to access 😉

      4. ok, I (yea me happy dance all over WP) fixed the blog postings so they pop up on the home page! still don’t have a like button, but there is one in the reader so if you follow me (hint, hint) there is a like there!

      1. Nicely done bud 🙂 Already wrote a comment!

Btw, as your build up your blog, don’t forget to add archive section to allow readers to read your older content in future and “About me” page is crucial for new visitors!

They want to know who they are listening to talking to them 😉

Congrats btw, really nice first post!

    2. What a wonderful idea! We need more of this sort of positive energy going around! Following and bookmarking your Belief Boosters for when I’m having a rough day!

      Thank you for sharing this!

      1. Haha thanks! Likewise, I’ve checked out your blog and I’m following as well. You’re a very interesting person 😉

Btw, I noticed that you got no Archive section and I highly recommend adding one via the widget in the theme customization settings.

Archives allow your readers to check out your older post so it’s good to have one unless you don’t wish to have your readers going through your older work.

Belief Boosters are awesome but should you ever feel the need to talk to anyone? Feel free to email me via

A listening ear is always better than a static page of a website 😉

You’re welcome and thank you for the “Pray for the world” image too!

Btw, I’d love to have you “like” and join our community page on FB as you can share any positive stuff that you come across or maybe even create as well.

Seriously, I’m still gathering people for it and you’re definitely one whom I believe can help make a lot of difference in it so let me know, yeah? 😉

      1. Hey Alex! Thanks for visiting 😉

Alright I’ll try my best to assist you but it is best that you contact WP’s assistance via their 24/7 chat assist. They’ve helped me resolve EVERY issues I’ve had since I started blogging so I’m sure they’d be able to do the same for you.

Alright, now, it’s hard to assist you because every theme has their own style/design. That means the way things are arranged will differ from theme to theme- Widgets availability, count and location (Side, top or bottom) will vary and differ because of this.

It’s gonna sound bad but I’d suggest that you try clearing EVERY single widget that you currently have, along with EVERY Menu. Then, build everything up from scratch again as how you’ve envisioned it.

For example, you want the “Recent Post” at the top? Use the widget that is placed at that location- Insert a “Recent Post” column there.

For “Previous Post” arrangement- I’m not too sure about it but I’m quite positive that this option is not adjustable manually unless you can do some coding etc in a self-hosted site dashboard/site builder.

In all honesty, my advise is to seek the help of WP’s FAQ or help chat. They know WP inside out and will be able to assist you the best.

And also, for your post here:

Use THIS as your “About Me” Page. Your readers will love you for it 😉
Don’t forget to ensure this post/page has a comment section so that visitors can interact with you!

If you got any other questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to assist!

Anyway, loved that post of yours. Sincerely, the stories shared, along with the messages- It’s really beautiful and just inspiring. I had to reblog it, which I did.

I hope to see you around more often bud. Keep up the good work 😉

Btw, a suggestion. Add an archive section so that your readers will not miss out on your older posts!

    3. Hi Benjamin

What a great project you are leading, so lovely to come across something so positive. The world needs more projects like yours.

I really like the noticeboard look you have on your blog, and in particular the ‘howdy friend’ note about emails. Brilliant idea.

I am quite a visual person when it comes to finding posts to read and so I would have liked maybe one or two of your posts in the side bar or at the end of your welcoming letter. I also must admit hate to keep scrolling down so when I did get to all your great posts I would have liked a few more ‘ continue reading’ options rather than the full posts each time. A few thoughts anyway . . . . .

If you do have a moment I’d love your thoughts on my Portuguese blog –

I have had the same theme for a year now, and have the urge to change. However I’d really welcome feedback on what you like in photo/travel blogs if you ever look at them. No worries though if you are busy or if travel blogs are not your thing.

All the best with your project

    1. I like this theme better than the last one you had. It “feels” more like the blog you should have, if that makes any sense at all. It is easier (for me anyway) to read and the pages load so much faster for some reason. good job!

    2. Your confessions post was simply awesome. Read it and commented too, a lengthy one too.
The theme and layout of your blog are very soothing on the eyes, we loved them. Whatever you have done, you have done it right.
PS: Do read this and comment

    3. Hiya

I love the simplicity of your new theme, looks good.

Does it have the option of sidebar menus? If so you might want to try some of the widgets for ‘favourite posts’, ‘posts I follow’, ‘community’. I think it could add something – I’ve just done this to one of my blogs –

However having said that I do like the simplicity of what you have done. So feel free to ignore me!!

If you have a moment though I’d like your thoughts on my second blog – I’m getting bored with the theme, but am unsure if that is a good enough reason to change it! Welcome your critique

    1. Hi,
I have just had a look through your blog and I am really impressed by the content you put up. I also love the theme that you have used and how your posts appear just as a feature picture.

Your writing is interesting and intrigued me so much that I felt I wanted to read more – hence why I followed you.

Are the images that you use ones you’ve taken?
      They are beautiful!!

Thank you for sharing and I’d love if you could check out my page and make any suggestions on where I can improve!!

    2. Great post, love the raw honesty of your emotions through your writing. If you’re feeling that confident, don’t let it scare you, go with it! Chances are you’re confident because the thought of employment there is making you excited, maybe it’s the job you’re SUPPOSED to have. If it doesn’t work out, maybe you you should look into similar opportunities! Good luck! Keep writing on your days off! 😉

Feel free to check out my blog. This is the link to my latest post…

I am wanting to change one of my blogs. I am getting bored with the theme! However I’m unsure if boredom is a good enough reason to change it. Welcome your thoughts on what I currently have, and what you think works and what doesn’t work as well

      Thanks, Becky

Okay hello everybody! I’m pretty sure you’re done with me being here but I’m back. I just started my blog two months ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve taken. I write about… Stuff. Sometimes it’s stories, thoughts and deep stuff and sometimes it’s just about my life as a teenager. I would love your thoughts on my blog as I’m always looking for ways to improve my writing! I would love if you read few of my posts and find them worth liking. I also like follows, just saying. (I’m almost at 200 so the pressures ON)

To answer your question, I have NO IDEEEEEAAAA how I’d deal with fighting myself if I had a split brain, I have enough trouble figuring myself with my hemispheres intact and connected lol.

I have been struggling for inspiration a bit lately and I would love some feedback and comments about my latest post. Did it work? Do you think I should be less/more silly? Would you like to see more humour?

Thank you very much and happy Independence Day to all the Americans here. 🙂

    2. So glad you’re enjoying the US, I DID enjoy my British travels but alas, it was just a vacation, nothing long term. Your wit is great throughout your entire piece. I’m a smidge concerned that you’re telling me through your pie graph that for the Americans you’ve met, their main thought when given the opportunity to conversate with a “fresh off the plane foreigner”, is food second to drink (yes I know, tea, Britain, but it’s still consumable). Sorry for THAT first impression lol, we have get our act together fellow Americans,we may be edging towards being lame… thanks for a good giggle. Following so I don’t miss any and don’t worry about the Americans you have to speak slow to. I’ve lived in this country my entire life and also still find myself having to speak more slowly for some than others. 😂 Feel free to check out my blog. My latest post is darker than usual so feel free to dig around my site!

    1. First off, I wish there as a love button instead of just like for your blog. I loved your shed the layers post, so emotional. In response to your question,I would rather take back anything I say than hear every conversation anyone ever had about me for two reasons. One, words hurt and people say things they dint mean when they’re angry. I don’t like the thought if someone hurting as a result of my words and wheb I ay skmething ring,it would be insanely wonderful to be able to take it back. Second, the phrase, “ignorance is bliss” has some value. I’d rather go about my business happy and unaware than be hurt by ignorant or misunderstood words that I try so hard not to hurt people with myself if that makes any sense.

    1. You’re doing it. The beauty of blogs is that there are no real rules, you just make them as you go, based on what works best for you. You’ve got a great start talking about what comes naturally I you and about what you’re familiar with. I read your mental health post and found it to be very honest and raw which makes for a great read. I would suggest posting intermittent posts about things that you enjoy, use your blog to create the world you want. Keep writing, I’m now following, can’t wait to read what else you have to say. Heres the link to my latest post that also addresses a personal ciunt wuth depression, if your interested, check it out. Maybe it will provide some peace knowing you are definately alone…

      1. Well, it’s not too real for your readers, there’s value in real life accounts. However, if you’re starting to feel as though it’s too raw for YOUR own good, you can always try a more vague approach if it makes you more comfortable. Just remember, your blog, your rules, so it’s really first and foremost about what works for YOU. The right readers will find you and love you based on YOUR style!

    1. You might want to change your background. While the image is beautiful and looks great in your header, it’s repeating in the background and that looks a tad unprofessional. You could change the background to a solid color instead? Otherwise, great layout!
