First Friday

New blogger? Welcome! Share a link to your first post, and say hello to some other fresh faces.

If you’re already a few posts into your blog and are looking for support or feedback, the Community Pool is the place for you!

Want to learn more about blogging? Take a Blogging U. course.

If a blogger publishes her first post and no one reads it, did it really happen? Of course it did! But when someone does read it, even better. Welcome to First Friday, a weekly open thread where any new blogger can share a link to his or her very first post with the larger WordPress.com community.

To share your first post with us, copy and paste the link right into a comment here; feel free to introduce yourself, and tell us what you hope to blog about. If you’re not new, you can still be a part of First Fridays: visit a link or two, and leave the blogger a like or comment. The first recognition a blogger gets is powerful, and you can provide that for someone brand-new!

Need help finding, copying, and pasting your link?

Head to your blog’s home page.

Click on the title of your post to open the individual post page.

Highlight and copy the URL you see in your browser’s address bar. You can copy by going to the Edit menu in your browser and selecting Copy, or with a keyboard shortcut (Control+C for a PC, Command+C on a Mac).

Paste the URL into a comment here. You can paste by going to the Edit menu in your browser and selecting Paste, or with a keyboard shortcut (Control+V for a PC, Command+V on a Mac).

That’s it!

You can make this a useful space for new bloggers with a few simple guidelines:

  • We encourage anyone who shares a link to visit one or two other bloggers here. New readers for all!
  • When commenting, the third time is not the charm: don’t share the same link repeatedly, or in multiple First Friday threads. We’ll remove repeat posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.
  • Please don’t use this as a space to share your first post…. that you published three years ago. Post should have been published within the last month. We’ll remove older posts to keep this space focused for new bloggers.
  • Link directly to your new post, rather than to your blog generally — it makes it that much easier for folks to like the post or leave you comments.
  • Keep comments civil. Even better: visit a blogger and leave your comment directly on their blog!
  • To keep from losing your place while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.
  • If you’ve never looked at our Commenting Guidelines, now might be a good time.

  1. I Just Want to Write

Hello everyone! I’m a new college graduate receiving a Bachelors degree in English Arts so clearly I really enjoy writing. Over the past 5 years I’ve written nothing but research papers and articles which are all well and good but I’ve decided to explore my neglected creativity and do a bit of poetry for my first post! I would love some thoughts/feedback! Thanks a lot! 🙂

  3. Come check out my blog. It’s focused on my personal photography and my venture of turning a hobby into a career. I’d love to get some feedback and followers. If you like what you see, tell a friend! I take pictures of everything but my current posts are mostly from vacation spots (Hawaii posts are the most recent.) My very first post is of South Carolina. Thanks!

    1. Hi Norhan. I just read a few of your posts. It’s a very personal blog. Actually it is more of a diary. Very emotional and true from the heart. I can see this is the way you vent out. You seem like a very passionate girl. Best of luck finding your way in life and the right balance between pleasing your family while staying true to yourself. Just a small word of advice, be careful of sharing too much of your personal life, there are a lot of evil people out there who are waiting to prey on others. Best of Luck!

    1. I mean to break your information down . Like if you write about Making a sandwich, you would break it down into ingredients, preparing, making, eating, etc. instead of just one paragraph. Hope I said that right!

  4. The link following is technically my second post but my first one simply defined ‘sabbatical’ and noted that that’s what I’m up to these days so it’s pretty lean. Succinct but the plot’s thin. Blogging is brand new for me – I’m using it to document other New Things I’m undertaking. Like straw bale gardening, new foods, and whatever else is shiny that day. Feel free to join me as I blunder my way along! I’d love your company. https://shelleyschell.wordpress.com/2016/05/09/as-green-as-it-gets/

  6. My desire in writing is to write in a way that allows people to connect to the writing. If anyone would care to read my posts and let me know which do…(because I think that would help in knowing what direction to go it) that would be awesome.

  7. Hi everyone
Been struggling with straighten my profile(s) in wordpress all day (turns out I had two and my site was disconnected from my profile, I am a food blogger if that might help ease the embarrassment) I have had my site for several months, but I have struggled with traffic. Any feedback that will help me understand what is missing will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to anyone that will take some time to check it out! http://www.kindfoodlove.com

  8. The page crashed when I first tried to post a comment! My apologies for any double posts.

I actually didn’t intend to start a blog. A friend read a piece I wrote when I was trying to get a particularly stressful EMS call off of my chest and suggested I expand it into a blog. With that said: Any advice, mechanical or grammatical corrections, and general comments are much appreciated! I write for myself, but it sure doesn’t hurt to know someone is reading along!
