Community Pool

The place for advice, feedback, and friendly blogging chatter.

Have you just published a new post and are dying for some feedback? Did you recently start your blog and could use some layout or design advice from your more seasoned peers?

Tap into the wisdom of The Daily Post blogging community and leave your question here in the comments. Others can then click through and offer input either on your site, or in the comments here (feel free to indicate which you’d prefer).

To help us make the Community Pool a productive space for discussion, here are some tips you might find useful:

TIP: To keep from losing your place in the comment thread while you visit others’ blogs, right-click on a link to open it in a new tab or window.

  • While you’re not required to, we encourage everyone who requests feedback to also reply to at least one or two other bloggers who need some help. Spread the love!
  • The Community Pool comments section can get quite big — and starting duplicate threads doesn’t help. Thanks for not posting the same question more than once!
  • If you’re looking for quality feedback, be as specific as you can. Questions about a particular post tend to draw more comments than ones about entire blogs. Questions about specific design elements are more likely to be answered than ones asking for general layout advice.
  • We discourage leaving links without a more substantive message or question. These are often overlooked by other bloggers, and we frequently remove them to make the comment reading experience smoother.
  • Please keep all comments civil and constructive. The idea is to have fun — it’s a pool, after all!
  • If you haven’t looked at our Commenting Guidelines in a while, now might be a good time.
  • No running on the deck.

  1. Hi guys! I just got the introduction to my blog done and hope to have some new posts coming soon. I just started this so I don’t know a lot about wordpress. If you guys could give me feedback on theme, my writing style (it can be a bit sarcastic), and the idea of my blog. Here’s the link. http://foodgalorefacts.wordpress.com/

    1. Hey! I was using the same theme you’re using now. I used it for four months and then decided I didn’t like the black, unused space on the right-hand side. So I switched to the free theme Big Brother. 🙂 But it’s totally up to you. I don’t think your theme hurts your blog or anything. But just something to keep in the back of your mind in case you want to change.

And good luck on your exam this Friday that you probably didn’t want to be reminded of. 😉

  2. Hi – I am always looking for other poets (or anyone interested in poetry) to give feedback on my writing blog. Also, any suggestions on how to improve the appearance/content of the blog is much appreciated!

I would love it if some of you could check it out and tell me if you RELATE, if you’ve ever felt that way. I need to know if my writing connects with people

  4. After completing both Blogging 101 and 102, I finally got caught up on the changes I wanted to incorporate. (If you haven’t taken a Blogging U course, I highly recommend trying one out.)

I’d especially like some feedback on the sidebar of the blogging page. As you’ll see from the opening, static page, I like things fairly simple and uncluttered. While I learned how to put some space between the items, I’m wondering if it still looks too much.

More eyes on it would be wonderful!! And any comments helpful. Thanks so much. J.

  5. Hi everyone! I’m a student currently studying abroad in Spain and will spend next semester in China – I’m blogging to share observations or funny stories about my experiences. I am hoping to turn blogging into something more serious down the road and am using my experiences abroad as experience.

I realize the instructions mention general questions should be avoided but I’m very new to blogging and am hoping this can be an exception. I honestly don’t know much at all about content creation or optimal layouts for blogs besides what I read here at Blogging 101. If any of you wonderful bloggers have a chance I would genuinely love to hear any advice you may have.

  6. Hi all! Keep in mind I have a LOT more writing to do, a lot of widgets to add, and some more tweaking to do, but I just got a travel site up and running: http://www.1fungrltravels.wordpress.com. Please check it out! I am all about spreading the love and giving back. If you comment I will definitely check yours out! I hope my theme isn’t too bright, but I chose it specifically because it suits me. What other kinds of categories would you like to see associated with travel? Thanks for the input!

    1. I read your post and wanted to comment but could not find the place to do so on your blog. I agree that compassion seems to be a dying art in our society—but I also think, as my father used to tell me—that ‘trust’ requires wisdom and discernment. To blindly trust because you want to ‘believe in humanity’ sounds backwards, and frankly, dangerous. I get it, I want to trust too, but trust is earned, not demanded.

      1. Thanks for reading and commenting. I agree that trust has to be earned and it was an absolutely bad judgement call on my part to get into a car. But it made me realize how much society has changed where we are terrified of helping another and want to believe the worse.

    1. I’m a new blogger as well and it took me a bit of time to get a clear picture of what I wanted to talk about and share on my blog. Once I clearly defined my vision, for myself, I was able to start to pick topics to write about. You should start there and get in touch with the true reason why you wanted to share your thoughts with the internet. Writing my About Me page really helped me to pick apart who I am and what I wanted to share. The About Me 101 and 102 tips helped me alot. I put the links below for you.

  7. Hey everyone,
I am a new blogger and trying to figure out this new world I have decided to join. I would love some feedback on my About Me page with any recommendations on how to make it better or opinions on if it’s enticing. I have updated it quite a bit lately from my original entry, but I know there is always room for improvement. I also added an About Me widget on my side bar with a picture to liven up my home screen a bit. Any feedback on whether this is good addition or too redundant would be helpful as well. Thanks in advance to anyone that replies.

  8. Hi all! I would much appreciate if you would take a moment to look at my blog. I just started it two weeks ago, and I would love feedback on the blog itself, my writing, and life in general. My blog focuses on my poetry and my dealings with depression and life. Thank you all and I look forward to looking at your blogs as well.

    Peace, Tanya
