Do you want more traffic?

We here at WordPress.com think about traffic often. We try to make WordPress easy to use in all the right ways, so it’s easy to find ideas, write well, post quickly and get traffic to your posts and your site.

There are two core features you should be using if Traffic interests you. They are:

  1. Publicize: easily notify your twitter and facebook friends of your posts.
  2. Sharing: Allow your readers to forward your post to twitter, facebook and other services.

But we’re always open to ideas – what else can we do to help you get more traffic for your posts? How can we make Publicize and Sharing better? How can we help you get more attention to your hard work?

Of course since everyone wants traffic, there is no magic solution. But if there are things we can provide, or make easier, we want to know about them. Please leave a comment. Thanks.

  1. My average views has gone up significantly* in the last five days. I think it’s mainly because of commenting on other blogs (including this one but not just this one). I haven’t done anything else recently to increase traffic that I wasn’t already doing before.

*which is to say by about 9.

  2. I seem to get the most hits on my blog when I participate in posts such as this and commenting on other peoples blogs. Shutter Sisters does a great job where they ask for submissions on a certain topic. I appreciate that when I reply, the link I submit doesn’t have to be my most current blog post. I can post a link to a photo I may have blogged about 6 months ago which matches their discussion. This has lead to new subscribers to my blog, my hit count skyrockets and comments are up. I’d love to find similar blogs and/or twitter connections to participate in.

  3. I think that all of the abovementioned ways to get traffic to your site/blog are really good. However, I just want to highlight the fact that getting a regular traffic surge does take time. Reddit is also a great site where one can submit links and get an instant surge of traffic provided the subject line of the url that u provide is catchy.
    Thanks for Sharing

  4. I’m just starting out, so this post and these comments have been helpful. I don’t know much about Reddit-do I actually have to go to that site or can I just include it in my automatic sharing?
