What topics do *you* want to see?

We’re close to topic #100 and we’ve been remiss – One intention we’ve had at the bottom of our hearts was to build a community around blogging and developing ideas – its been too one way so far.

To change this, we want to post topics that come from you – what topics do you want to see? Leave ’em in the comments.

I know some of you have complained in the past about how lame some of our topics have been and the shameful anti-puppy bias we have at times expressed – here’s your chance to show us what you’ve got.

Topics we pick will include a link to your blog in our post! More traffic for you.

  1. I can’t beat adventurewriter’s list. But how about posts that encourage bloggers to get to know each other better? An interview challenge, for example: interviewing one other blogger writing about your area of interest once a month.
You could get people to register their interest in being interviewed and noting what they blog about so we can choose our interviewees based on our audience’s interests. For example, I blog about writing so my readers probably wouldn’t have much to say if I interviewed an auto mechanic or florist.
These are the kinds of posts that could build long-term followers between bloggers.

    1. I like this. Similarly, bloggers can “profile” other blogs, or do a “tale of two blogs” where you compare and contrast 2 other blogs. It can also be a good way to cross-publicize each other. : )

  4. I hate to be the topic wet blanket, but personally I’m not a big fan of topics. The thought of 400,000 people all writing about the same thing on the same day just sounds, well boring. Or like a school writing assignment. Isn’t the point of blogging supposed to be that the blogger has something to say, not that they have to be provoked to say something?

But from the comments above, it sounds like many bloggers LOVE topics. So if you’re going to have topics, my suggestion is to have a random selection of topics so that everyone is not writing about the same thing at the same time. Have a topic grab bag each day that bloggers could “draw” a number and select their topic if they want one, and then accept the challenge they’re given, whether it appeals to them or not. Sort of a “lemons out of lemonade” topic bag.

And please no more cruel topics about puppies. It’s just wrong.

    1. I respectfully disagree. While I can see how the thought of so many people writing about the same topic may sound boring, in reality it is quite interesting. Because everyone’s take on the topic is so different, their experiences different, and therefore their posts are very different. I suggest visiting some of the blogs that leave comments under a post and you will see what I mean. Everyone’s posts are different.

I don’t look at The Daily Post topics like a writing assignment that I have to complete each day. That would suck. LOL I look at The Daily Post as a place for ideas when I could use some. I already pick and choose which topics I want to write about and which I don’t. The point is to post everyday (or week). The topics are suggestions.

I agree with you 100% about the puppies, that was messed up. 🙂

I totaly agree with Deb here, 1 topic 400,000 ideas and opinions, each one a little different, Deb’s post could inspire me to write something else, Kevin’s post on this same topic could be 100 % different than the rest, not a bad thing just different nad his opinion, and each topic they suggest also reads at the bottom “If this topic does not go with your particular blog theme than change it up a little bit so that it works for you!

  6. Slightly weirder topics, maybe. Such as, “describe a back-alley store where you’d never want to buy anything.” Or, “have a conversation with Benjamin
Franklin, without using the word ‘patriotism’ or ‘the British’.” Having gone to college & graduate school for creative writing, I have no problem with everyone everywhere writing on the same topic; as long as it gets people writing and thinking about language, that’s fine. Weirder/more provocative prompts might inspire a wider field of responses. Lastly, thank you Scott et al. for all your hard work towards the cause.

How to tinker with captions, live links that have been opened, etc. for themes that have that kind of flexibility. And how about providing more flexibility on the dot come site? Allow some java code in there for heaven’s sake!

Like the movie idea, but not on-going reviews. like keeping to topics that show who you are and how you were shaped. Seems we all love food, pets, flowers, children, and nature’s beauty, so don’t object too much to those. As my blog is about emotional fitness and staying strong, I like questions that share strengths, how coped and about how we came to be who we are. Samples:

What is your earliest happy memory. Bonus earliest sad memory.
When did you realize there was no Tooth Fairy or cultural equivalent? How did you feel?
When did you realize your parents didn’t know all the answers. Who did you turn to then for answers?
When did you realize you need to ask your parents to forgive you? When did you realize your parents were human and that you’d be better if your forgave them. If you haven’t forgiven, why?
When did you not follow the crowd as a teen?
    What was your first pet?
What did you think dying meant when you were a child? When did that change?
When you were nine years old, how did you answer the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Did you give that up?
What is the story behind your given name?
What is the story behind your given name?

I’ll stop here. Thanks for asking.

There is enough material shared on this forum today to keep us all blogging for a while. I looked through to avoid duplicating what others suggested but that’s unavoidable and you might have given us versions of some anyway. Here are a few:
A Picture Story post – give a choice of 2-4 pictures to write an adventurous story around 1-2 of them… (we can even substitute our own pictures)
Major event post – I’d like to see us write a major event or current/upcoming news event or calendar event post: ex., Earth Day for April 22.
A gratitude post – What we are most grateful for…
A favorite food post – or least favorite food post.
Movies post – Our top 3-10 movies we’ve watched in our lifetime or in the last year.
Music post – Same as above and we can run amok with it 8)
Top Ten Post – Any top 10 topic of our choice.
A Memorable Eulogy – A creative, even humorous one for ourselves or for an imaginary friend.
Quotes post – Give us a quote or two and we write around the message of the quote.
What If post – I like these because they allow us to examine our convictions.
One Word Short Story post – Give us a word and have us use it to develop a creative piece; short story, poem, vlog, for ex., the word – Viral 😉
Learn about a charity/nonprofit post – we can share our favorite or introduce one we admire in our community
Reviews on anything post – books, movies, music, food places, travel spots, etc, etc
Prediction post – What important event, invention or gismo will be top news next six months, year…
