New Feature: My Comments
One thing that became pretty apparent after we launched the Tag Surfer, people were going to start leaving a lot more comments on blogs they may not visit regularly and it’s a real pain to track followups to comments you’ve left on WordPress.com. (Or even remember what comments you left!)
Well we’ve got a little something new for you today. (Free!) In your Dashboard sub-menu you’ll see a new tab called My Comments.
When you click on this, it’ll show the comments you’ve made across WordPress.com, as well as the comment directly before yours and any replies to the post since yours. Posts with the latest replies are at top. If a comment thread gets really long we trim it and only show the latest stuff.
So check it out, and to celebrate why not find a blog or post with no comments (like on the tag surfer) and share your thoughts? It’ll make someone’s day and now you can easily follow the conversation from the comfort of your dashboard. 🙂
Another great solution to a sometimes crazy problem!

This is a quite useful feature, especially for users who like to comment a lot. 🙂

A feature that makes great sense.

That sounds great – I have forgotten (sometimes) where I commented and this feature certainly helps! Thanks

Cool. Kinda like CoComment just for WordPress.
You realise I’m just doing this to test how long it takes to work? Cheers 🙂

Hi Matt,
WOW! Changes, changes everywhere and all of them good. I have a question: Is this new “My Comments” feature cumulative and archived so we can access it later? If so then we won’t have a need to continue to use cocomment for the comments we leave on fellow wordpressers blogs. Thanks for the innovation. 🙂

Yes it’s archived forever.

Great feature. Would it be possible to have a feature where threads could be marked as read and removed from the dashboard, though? For those who comment a lot I can see that things could get pretty clogged up the way things stand.

Great feature. Any chance that we might be able to delete threads once we’ve read them, though?

Great – this is really usefull, and additionally it removed my fear that now there will be no more free upgrades and that we might have to pay for anything.

Does this feature also track trackbacks?
How hard would it be to track comments that haven’t been approved yet? I’d like to see my comment (or possibly trackback) show up in my tracker the moment I send it or just a few minutes later, depending on implementation.
But this is great, thanks!

This is great for the wordpress blogs but It would be cool if you include the CoComment plugin for people who use that as well.

Only one problem. It seems to track comments made on one’s own blog. Perhaps, you guys could try to get around that.

Considering that WPMU keeps all it’s users’ data in separate tables, this is still quite an engineering feat! Bravo.

What I think would be great is to now have this feature in a widget. You could add a widget to your blog to show others the blogs you’ve commented on, which could get other people interested in those blogs too.

Yeah.. the comments arent getting tracked. Also, I am getting the comments written at my own blog space also listed, which I think is redundant 🙂

well, the problem of one’s own comments seems to be resolved, becasue I am not getting my own comments (from my own blog)…
also, I am not having to scroll through weeks and weeks of comments, which is nice…

Thanks wordpress, I really enjoy beeing part of this community.
In this new layout, I can’t find how I can edit my own comments. It was a useful feature as I could have corrected a typing mistake or add a link.
Is there still a way to do that?
Thank you again 🙂

You can ofcourse install the Firefox plugin available from them, but having it in blog engine would be nice.

I am indeed highly impressed with what i have seen at word press, I am into bloggingsince last August 2005, and blogs have become a vital part of my life in sharing a pictorial world that is human, the under belly of mans existence , pedestrian survival, and the world of ritualism, sufism , tansgenders hijdas, moharam, naga sahus, Ihave captured and without any reservation tried to link my unique overcovertly colored world with other bloggers..and the quest like the holy grail never ends…I have seen the sycophancy of cybernetic curiosity ,having srtetched this fabric of blog adventurism, in a short time, I am indeed prophecisizing that word press will in no short time become a powerful medium touching a lot of human life and human changes.. and this is my experience and inner gut feeling of 15 days since I signed up here.Yes I am impressed..and I write this at 3.30 am mumbai time .
