Upgrade Your Plan

You can upgrade your site’s plan anytime to add extra features and capabilities to your website. In this guide, you will learn how to upgrade your plan and how to use your upgrade credit.

Upgrade Your Plan

To upgrade your website’s WordPress.com plan, take the following steps:

  1. Visit your site’s dashboard.
  2. On the left side, navigate to Upgrades Plans (or Hosting → Plans if using WP-Admin). Here, you can see your active plan and the features included in all our plans.
  3. Click the “Upgrade” button below the plan you’d like to upgrade to.
  4. You’ll be taken to the checkout screen with a summary of your order.
  5. Below the plan name, you can choose to switch from paying for one year to paying for two or three years at a time. If you wish to pay for more than three years, pay for three years then start the process again to pay for as many additional years as needed.
Checkout screen, with an Explorer plan displayed.
  1. In the box labeled “Add a coupon code“, you can use a code if you have received a discount offer.
  2. Review your purchase and click the “Pay” button to complete the upgrade.

Upgrade Credit

If you’re upgrading from one plan to another, you will only pay the price difference based on how much time is left with your existing subscription. This will show as an upgrade credit on the plan page.

The upgrade credit is the remaining value of your current plan. The upgrade credit is automatically subtracted from the price of the higher-cost plan at checkout when you upgrade.

Credit for the time remaining on your plan is calculated by the number of months remaining. For example, if you have one month left on your existing plan, 1/12 of your current plan’s total value will be applied as a discount when upgrading to a higher-cost plan.

The upgrade credit can be used to upgrade to a higher plan or change your payment frequency (for example, going from a one-year to a two-year subscription). It cannot be applied to any other purchase, such as a domain, email upgrade, plan downgrade, or a plan for a different site.

Upgrade and Change Payment Frequency

Hosting plans are offered in monthly, annual, and multi-year options. When you upgrade your plan, you will have the option to select a new payment frequency. Learn more about changing your payment frequency.

You have the flexibility to change your plan in the following ways:

  1. Monthly to Annual or Multi-Year: You can upgrade from a monthly plan to an annual or multi-year plan at any time.
  2. Annual to Multi-Year: You can upgrade from an annual to a multi-year plan.

If your site is on an annual or multi-year plan and you want to upgrade to a higher plan but choose a shorter payment frequency (e.g, going from annual to monthly), you can contact us for assistance.
