As mentioned, the Design your own feature is by far the fastest way to get a new, basic site up and running from scratch. Planning out the content you want to replace the placeholder content with will certainly take longer than the initial setup of a multiple page site when you take this approach.

It’s important to remember that the WordPress software is extremely powerful and capable of anything you can imagine, once you learn how. This course has been a great introduction to the tools, but has only scratched the surface of what’s possible. We encourage you to continue your website building journey by exploring additional courses and webinars to learn about many more features and customization possibilities.

Before you continue, we want to recap a few key points about working with the site you’ve created by using the Design your own feature.

  1. The homepage you’ve designed is your own Default Homepage template. This is a single-use template. The content is built directly in the template. You can access this Homepage template from the list of Pages from your main dashboard↗︎, but it’s not a regular page. You can also access the template by going to Appearance > Editor > Templates. The name of this template is Home.
  2. The additional pages you may have created using this feature are regular pages that use the Pages template by default, which is a multi-use template. These pages merge with their template to display on the front end of your site. You can edit this template by going to Appearance > Editor > Templates. and you can edit the page content from the list of Pages from your main dashboard↗︎. As a multi-use template, the Pages template includes a Content block that is required for the template to work properly to display your content. You do not add or edit your content directly in the Pages template.
  3. We highly recommend reviewing the Templates Explained lesson in the Getting Started course and the Editing Templates lesson in the Create Your Site course for a deeper understanding regarding the relationship between templates and content in your site.
  4. The name of the base theme that your site is built on is called Creatio 2. This is a WordPress.com theme, it’s available for any hosting plan, including free. If you have any questions you can reach out for support through our Forums, Email, or Live Chat depending on the hosting plan you have. You can also learn more about themes in our Understanding Themes lesson in the Getting Started course and the Choose a Theme lesson in the Create Your Site course.
  5. If this Quick Launch course is the first course you’ve taken in our learning hub, we recommend reviewing our Learning Hub Roadmap to get a full overview of the resources we have available. Our Getting Started course and Create Your Site course are the other two foundational courses that will offer significant insight into working with a WordPress.com website.
