Bio
Born and raised in Decatur, GA, Donna Thompson is the youngest of 8 children, born to William and Adrienne Thompson. Starting in the fourth grade, Donna began playing classical and percussion and piano. She attended the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where she became acutely aware of her race and gender while playing in orchestras across the United States, including solo performances with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Opera Noire of New York. Donna Has performed at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall where she studied with the principal percussionists of the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. After two years in New York, Donna transferred to Spelman College in Atlanta, GA where she learned everything she knows about being a black woman.
