WordPress Oxygen Theme

https://oxygendemo.wordpress.com/
I need help with this theme. I’m trying to modify the color of the texts to black because I can’t really see well the grey color.
How do I go about changing the texts to a different color (for example, text under blog title, recent posts title, recent post list, and so on)?
And the demo has a “book” “featured” “photos” etc. menu in black background (box). Is there a way to make this box as well?
Thanks for your assistance.

Hi,
Unless you have upgraded to Custom Design, the text color’s you mention won’t be changeable. If you do, then add a tag of css as well. (perhaps modlook as well, then it’s highlighted for a staff member)
The ‘black box’ you refer to is one of the widget menus, I use Oxygen on one of my blogs (I don’t use that blog much..) and I don’t see it either…. Perhaps it is a a Custom Design box..? So I wouldn’t mind finding out also.

I just checked the info at the Oxygen Info Page:
“Custom Menus
Oxygen supports up to three Custom Menus that can be configured by going to Appearance -> Menus:The Primary Menu appears below the Site Title
The Secondary Menu appears with a black background, just underneath the Primary Menu
The Tertiary Menu appears in the footer”My Secondary Menu appears in the same place but no ‘black background’…. A bit confusing.

afreestyler is correct.
Have you consulted this support doc? https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/
If you have not purchased the Premium upgrade bundle which includes the custom design upgrade, then note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.
See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ that contains a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing. See:
Custom design – Frequently Asked Questions
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/You do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade. All of these functions can be accessed from your dashboard – without loading the custom design tools – no upgrade required.
Appearance > Header
Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > GeneralIf you are using the preview mode for the Custom Design upgrade some of the settings in that mode will save but they won’t show up on the front end unless you purchase the upgrade.
To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

If you have purchased the required upgrade then please use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can copy and paste your text into a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need.
NOTES: If you are referring only to the text inside of your posts and pages you can make some changes without an upgrade.
Changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page by coding into the Text ie. HTML editor. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/11/formatting-text-pt-5/
Changing font colors in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page using the #4 icon (Select text color – change the text color) in Row 2 the Visual editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2
To display the second row of icons, first select the toolbar toggle icon at the end of row 1 and click it. https://i0.wp.com/en.support.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/kitchensink.png
Then see here https://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#text-colorHowever, if you want to make changes to titles or widgets then you need the premium upgrade bundle that includes the custom design upgrade in it.

Thanks timethief, the css links may be handy for me in the future, I have it for my main blog, but I don’t use it often.
The ‘black background’ for one of the widgets at the oxygen demo, does have us both stumped though. :/ As I use it at a ‘little used’ blog of mine; and it does not show there either.

The box with the black background is not a widget. It’s a Custom Menu.
Oxygen supports up to three Custom Menus that can be configured by going to Appearance -> Menus:
The Primary Menu appears below the Site Title
The Secondary Menu appears with a black background, just underneath the Primary Menu
The Tertiary Menu appears in the footer -
I have tried a custom menu.. it does not appear with a black background either.
Have also tried it as pages. categories still nothing.
For @jksp22 I also use this Expound Theme (at yet another blog).. it is very similar to Oxygen but has a clearer font.

Un huh… I’ve just checked and it’s a menu settings check box, they just require you to ‘check a box’ after creating your menu
So, at Dashboard > Appearance > Menus
Once you’ve created your menu…you’ll see the tick option for ‘Menu Settings’ (without checking those boxes it just appears without the black box) There’s also a ‘manage locations’ tab.
The black box will appear. :))

I have used the Oxygen theme for a wordpress.com blog for the past 6 months. I have moved to a .com domain through GoDaddy. When I downloaded the template, it is quite different.
I don’thave the full size header anymore. Is there any way to adjust this? -
We provide support only for blogs hosted by WordPress.COM. As that site is not hosted here by WordPress.COM, our support docs do not relate to it, and we cannot provide support for it. You are posting to the wrong support forum.
WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.
