WordPress.com post not accepting hyperlinks

Hello and thank you for reading this.
I am in the middle of finishing my post, making sure that the hyperlinks are in place only to learn that none of the links I am inputting are sticking. I paste the link, click the left-handed arrow for apply but the process remains incomplete. When I click on the arrow a second time to close out the procedure, the text returns to its original color, black without an active link.
Can you tell me why this is happening and how to fix it? Thank you.

If that doesn’t help, can you share the title of the post so that we can look into it? If you can take some screenshots and upload them to your media library, that’d be helpful for us as well.
