Word press personal site with other hosting company can i move to yourselves?

  • Hi I have a WordPress site i created for fun, and just to see how to make a website, its almost at the end of the 12mths where my monthly fees shoot up, as its just for fun i dont see the point in paying a lot, but dont want to loose the site completely, even though the account is with 1&1 I can still see the site in my wordpress when i log in, is it possible to move the account from the current provider to just a free wordpress account and take off the domain i currently have on it? or any other options?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hello @mileslt,
You can move all the contents of your current wordpress.com site/blog to this self hosted WordPress.ORG site(hosted on 1&1) by following this guide: https://move.wordpress.com/

But in this case, you will have to register a domain.

    Hope this helps 🙂

  • If you do not want to migrate the contents yourself, then you can buy a guided transfer upgrade which comes at $129 per blog transferred.

In this guided transfer upgrade the staff will take care of everything given below:
    • Installing the WordPress software at your choice of one of our recommended hosts.
    • Transferring over the content from your WordPress.com site.
    • Installing and configuring Jetpack and a few other plugins to provide features that you have been using on WordPress.com.
    • Configuring and testing permissions so that you’ll be able to have one-click installs and upgrades.
    • Switching your domain(s) name server settings to point over to the new site.
    • Answering questions and providing guidance for you on your new WordPress installation for a two week period.
