why do i need a business plan to install plugins from wordpress

  • basically i find this very bang out of order forcing people to pay for business plan to use plugins from wordpress. I understand that you would need a business plan if you upload your own plugins but why do you actually need a business plan for the plugin what they provide on the store. (this is the reason why i upgraded to premium and i thought that plugins are included)

  • Hi –

The business plan is required for WordPress.com sites to use plugins. WordPress.com is different from the open source WordPress installation that is completely free.

    See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  • would I be able to transfer my site to wordpress.org and use plugins for free or do I have to pay for plans all over again

  • @stephyymullen WordPress.org is free software, not a service. So you wouldn’t need a plan from us unless you were using one of our other services (like Jetpack’s premium offerings.) You would need a plan from your new host though. Also, we would not provide support.

Incidentally that’s why we only have plugins on our Business plan: plugins and third party themes greatly increase the complexity of supporting your site. But if you’re happy to troubleshoot as needed on your own and get help from the community, WordPress.org would be a good choice. Just be sure you’re also taking care of backups and security.

You would want to transfer the domain itself, or point it to the new host. Other than that, if you’re within a 30 day window of purchase, you can cancel and get a refund. Please get in touch here for more info: http://wordpress.com/help/contact
