Tomoni theme does not allow post view

  • I’m trying to use Tomoni theme but I see that it only allows home page view. I want latest posts to be home page. Is there a way to change this? “Your home Page Displays” menu is grayed out.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there!

Since the theme doesn’t have a default ‘blog’ page to display the latest posts, please follow these instructions to set one up:

    1. Create a new page by clicking My Site → Pages → Add New Page. Learn more about Pages here.
    2. When the new page editor loads, you’ll see a pop-up to choose a predefined layout. Click “Blog” from the left menu and select a layout you like. This step is optional, but it will give you a good starting point. You can also choose the first one, called “Blog”. See the screenshot below:

After you publish this page, please follow the steps at the link below to set this page as the homepage of your site:

    WP

A home page is the front page of your site. Using the steps in this guide, you can control which page your visitors see first when visiting your website. Set the Homepage from Settings To set the homepage of your site, follow these steps: Visit your site’s dashboard. Go to Settings → Reading in the left sidebar: Locate the dropdown option Your homepage displays at the top o

Once all that’s done, you will see your homepage display the blog posts.

Feel free to let us know if you have more questions.

  • Thanks. I did as instructed but I still get a blank page for home page. This theme, for some reason, transferred the home page in the display as the home page of this blog. I deleted the text from that page (including the Japanese text) but I think that page is still the home page. When you click on the blog name in a post https://research-notes.org/2023/11/28/when-and-why-did-euclid-lose-his-authority/ you go to that blank page, not to the page that I created and published as instructed. Sorry, this turned out to be unnecessarily complicated.

  • And where is that home page that came from the display? I can no longer find it. I think it was in templates.

  • I see that front page shows in this URL https://research-notes.org/blog/

Is there a way to make research-notes.org as the home page (without the /blog part)?

  • Hey there,

I’ve taken a look at https://research-notes.org/2023/11/28/when-and-why-did-euclid-lose-his-authority/ – and it looks like the blog content is there and in place.

To check, are you still seeing a blank page in that template?

And where is that home page that came from the display? I can no longer find it. I think it was in templates.

It looks like there’s a Front page template here: https://notlar11.wordpress.com/wp-admin/site-editor.php?path=%2Fwp_template%2Fall

    I hope this helps!

  • Yes, each post individually is there but on this post https://research-notes.org/2023/11/28/when-and-why-did-euclid-lose-his-authority/ please click the title link “Research notes” and it goes to a blank page not to the list of blog posts.

  • I changed to Home page and Posts page version. The other way didn’t work.

But I realized that the content of Home page needs to be done in Front Page template. Is there a way to edit Home page as a regular page?

  • Hi there,

But I realized that the content of Home page needs to be done in Front Page template. Is there a way to edit Home page as a regular page?

By default the homepage content on the Tomoni theme are edited directly in the Front Page template, so it does not automatically connect to the “Home” page you created here.

Content that you add to that page is not added to the template, since that style of homepage that you have set up currently is intended for use with “classic” themes that allow any page to be set as your homepage for the site.

Before we advise you further I do have a question if that is OK. In your initial post you mentioned that you were trying to show all your blog posts on the homepage. Currently your site is not set up to do this since you have your homepage and your posts page set as two different pages here: https://notlar11.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page

Are you still wishing to have blog posts listed on your homepage? Or do you wish to have your blog posts be listed on the page called “Blog” and the “Home” page to be something other than blog posts, such as a welcome message or some other content?

Thanks for clarifying, this is a newer theme so it’s not set up in the same way as you may be expecting if you are accustomed to classic themes, but we’re happy to get you pointed in the right direction.

  • Thanks for the help. I still want https://research-notes.org/ to be the home page showing the latest posts (without the /blog extension). But I couldn’t make that work even though I followed the instructions by aisajib above.

“Are you still wishing to have blog posts listed on your homepage?” Yes. This is what I want, if possible.

  • Hey there,

Understood, so I think these steps would be most useful to you.

“Are you still wishing to have blog posts listed on your homepage?” Yes. This is what I want, if possible.

    1. Go to Appearance > Customize > Homepage settings and set the front page to show the Latest posts.
    2. Save > and then go to Appearance > Site editor > Templates > Manage all templates > under the front page template > click on the three dots and then reset template.

Depending on what’s then put back in place, we can then look to guide you on how to get what you want showing, showing there – even if it means copying the what’s in the Index template into the Front page template.

    I hope this helps!

  • Ok, I followed the steps and reset the Front page and now I have the default text from the tomoni display. How do we get the posts there? Thanks for the help.

  • Hey there,

Ok, awesome! The next step would be to add the blog posts into the template and the best way to do this would be via patterns. I created this screenshot to show you how to do this:

Where exactly do you wish for these to sit? I can provide further guidance to help you.

    I hope this helps.

  • I’m sorry but I give up. All I see is that a black screen with locked items. I have no idea how to activate these. WP.com used to be very simple. I don’t see the point of all these hacks just to a have a simple blog. Maybe I chose the wrong theme, I don’t know. Thanks for your time anyway.
