Theme Change And Featured Images

  • Like many WordPress users, I change themes every now and again. This process is generally seamless, easy.

However, some themes – for instance, “Blask” – don’t use Featured Images with posts; thus, in changing to such a theme, the blog posts are text only – until clicked, when single posts will display the Featured Image.

For those of us with Featured Images attached to every post, does WordPress provide a means to switch to themes like Blask, wherein Featured Images can be displayed on the blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there – That’s going to be completely dependent upon the theme’s design that you switch to.

In this case, Blask doesn’t offer the option to display featured images on the blog posts page, which you’ve probably seen here: https://blaskdemo.wordpress.com/blog/

And the theme does not offer the option within the Customize tool to tell featured images to display there (like some other themes have). It’s likely because the theme is a portfolio-based theme.

Something that might serve as a workaround could be to build your own blog posts page using blocks, and this block specifically: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/blog-posts-block/

This would allow you to borrow on the strengths in the design that you like about Blask (portfolio) while also utilize blocks to pull together your own custom blog posts page that uses featured images.

Could this strategy work for your needs?

  • I’m not familiar with the blog-posts-block and will have to look into it.

    Thanks for the suggestion!
