for the record, i have set it up in options > general. it used to show when i was in another theme.is it a theme-dependant thing?

On my browser I go to *view* in the menu then to *view source*. Then I read the code. lol. There it is. No tagline in this theme.

thanks very much.
it’s a pity though, little things like these DOES make a big difference. too bad i like the theme so much. -

That’s nice but sharing it with volunteers answering forum questions will not bring staff atttention to your desire. To do that you need to clearly state what you want in a support ticket sent to staff and also include your reasons for requesting that a tagline be added to the Garland theme http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

Hmmm … Now I’m wondering now that div tags are not being stripped if it couldn’t be done without the css upgrade since I just found this in the forum search box https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=14825&page&replies=8#post-108408<div style="[position you want for your tag line]"> Your Tag Line Here! </div>

I’m sorry but I do not understand you. What does the sidebar widget have to do with the tagline?

(1) Do you have a wordpress.com blog? If so please post the link to it so we can see which theme you are working with.
(2) Do you have experience with css editing?
(3) Have you purchased the css customization upgrade?I’m asking because without the upgrade you cannot insert a tagline. http://faq.wordpress.com/category/customization/

I apologize for the bold lettering. I left a strong tag open and cannot edit to close it.
