Suggestions about WordPress issues when I wanted to start over.

The suggestions are a result of my experience including answers on this forum
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/i-want-to-start-over-56?replies=5#post-2602487
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-do-bulk-delete-of-many-posts?replies=5#post-2601285
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/bulk-move-to-trash-failed-error-in-moving-to-trash?replies=2#post-26011601. On https://wordpress.com/settings/general/page there is an option Start Over https://wordpress.com/settings/start-over/ that suggests to request to remove content on a support forum.
When I did it (https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/i-want-to-start-over-56?replies=5#post-2602487) I was advised to follow instructions on https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/
Suggestion:. Site setting page https://wordpress.com/settings/start-over/mfreidge.wordpress.com should have a reference to https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/ instead of suggestion to contact Support
2. The support page https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/#deleting-posts suggests to use Move to Trash from the Bulk Actions dropdown. However the posts list shows only 20 posts per page.
Suggestion. The Deleting Posts page should have a tip: If needed to increase the number of posts that show on in the list you should go to the screen options at top right of page(see screenshots https://cloudup.com/i6-f4FYZdzn https://cloudup.com/iNbRTNQFQsQ) https://YOUR-BLOG-NAME.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php and recommend the reasonable number of posts per page3. When I set page size to 500 and tried to delete, the error was shown immediately and wasn’t user-friendly:
This site can’t be reached
mfreidge.wordpress.com unexpectedly closed the connection.
ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED.Suggestion- make error message meaningful, e.g suggest to reduce number of posts to delete.
4. When I set page size to 100 and tried to delete, after some time another error appeared.
Something has gone wrong with our servers, and we’ve just been notified of the problem.
This will be fixed as soon as possible, so kindly reload in a minute and things should be back to normal.
But when I checked, the posts actually were deleted.
Suggestion- do not show error message if operation succeeded5. Also intermittently I’ve seen
“Error in moving to Trash”
without more details what to do to avoid it. I found that simple retry can succeed.
Example of url when this error occurred:
https://mfreidge.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?s=&post_status=all&post_type=post&_wpnonce=9749b5e1f6&_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2Fedit.php&action=trash&m=0&cat=0&paged=1&post%5B%5D=10&post%5B%5D=40&post%5B%5D=50&post%5B%5D=20&post%5B%5D=30&post%5B%5D=52&post%5B%5D=42&post%5B%5D=32&post%5B%5D=22&post%5B%5D=12&post%5B%5D=54&post%5B%5D=44&post%5B%5D=34&post%5B%5D=24&post%5B%5D=14&post%5B%5D=56&post%5B%5D=46&post%5B%5D=36&post%5B%5D=26&action2=-1Suggestion: Ideally fix the reason of the error. At least extend the message to suggest what to do, e.g. “Please retry again”

Hey Michael!
Thanks so much for the suggestions. Please see below:
#1 Suggestion:. Site setting page should have a reference to https://en.support.wordpress.com/empty-site/ instead of suggestion to contact Support
Great suggestion! I’ve added that suggestion to the GitHub repo here:
https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/4634
#2 Suggestion. The Deleting Posts page should have a tip: If needed to increase the number of posts that show on in the list you should go to the screen options at top right of page
Done! I’ve updated the page here.
#3. When I set page size to 500 and tried to delete, the error was shown immediately and wasn’t user-friendly:
#4. When I set page size to 100 and tried to delete, after some time another error appeared.
Something has gone wrong with our servers, and we’ve just been notified of the problem.#5. Also intermittently I’ve seen
“Error in moving to Trash”I believe all of these issues are related to hitting memory/space limits with the amount of posts you were trying to delete. Did you run into the error in #5 when trying to bulk delete?
-
Sorry for the delay. Yes, “Error in moving to Trash” happened during bulk delete. After the error some items were deleted and some were not deleted

Hi @freidgeim, thanks. If you delete the posts in bulk again, do they finish? I have sometimes seen that error when deleting large numbers of posts. We’re working on other options, but in the meantime we can empty the site for you if needed.
-
Thanks, after a few attempts I was able to delete all posts that I wanted. This post is just suggestions how you can improve the process.
