Social Media Icons no displaying
-
Hello,
I am trying to add social media icons to the footer of my website. When I try to add the social icons widget to the footer area the icons do not show up. I cannot enter the url to my social media pages anywhere either.
I would greatly appreciate if you could help me solve this. I use the “plane” theme and the webpage is https://psychosophcomic.wordpress.com/ (it is still on offline mode though).
Thanks in advance!
Best,

Hi there,
Is this when adding the Social Icons block to a widget area in the Customizer?
That appears to be broken, as it’s not working for me either. I’ve opened a bug report for our developers to investigate this.
In the meantime, it does appear to work if you add the widget using the WP-Admin interface. You can reach that here:

Hi,
thank you for opening the bug report! It displays when I put it in the icons in the WP-Admin interface. However, the icons are elongated and still not clickable when I open the website. Is there I wayI can solve this or doI need to wait for the bug to be solved?
Thank you a lot in advance!

Hi there!
We were seeing the same thing and kokkieh has mentioned it in his bug report. I’d suggest waiting for the bug to be fixed.
Thanks for your patience!

Hey,
after working on my page design a little bit more, I discovered that this problem does not only occur for the social media icons but also for custom links in the main menu. I’d appreciate if you could include this in the bug report. -
-
Last Edit: It seems the problem only occurs when I view the page in the design-interface. When I go to the webpage the links work. Only the social media icons are displayed in an odd egg shape (and they are not evenly sized), as I mentioned before.

Hi there,
I have added your updates to the bug report. We’ll touch base with any updates regarding a bug fix. Thank you!

The external links are clickable now. Thank you for solving this problem!
However, the icons in the social-icons widget that I use in the page footer are still egg-shaped instead of circular, as they should be. I would really apprciate if you could help me out with that.

Hi there,
You can make your icons round again (while our devs examine this issue further) by adding the following CSS to your customizer settings :
#tertiary .widget ul li { padding: 0; }
This will make the icons round as expected.
Ah, correction, external links still don’t work.
Hmm, for me they seem to work. Here is a video of me clicking on the social icons at the bottom of your site.
https://d.pr/v/gM6PQ5If you try the same icons they do not work for you, and you are not redirected to the correct social media page? If not what are you seeing instead? No behaviour at all? You click and get nothing?
Thanks for the additional info! -
Thank you for helping me out here. The code works. But the social media buttons war space far apart. Iif you could help me make them be displayed eyactly next to each other, I’d really appreciate it.
The problem with the unclickable external links only orrurs when I am in the edit window (sorry, I am not a native english speaker). When I open the website in a separate tab, everything is fine as you show it in the video.

Hello there,
You could try adding this CSS code to bring the icons closer together:
/* Remove social icon padding */ .widget ul li { margin-left: 0px; }
I hope this helps.
