  I would like to be able to control the color of background and text on the sidebar pages. Is that possible through CSS?

  Yes, perfectly possible provided you know what you’re doing with CSS. There are some good resources in the FAQ, so go through them and tinker with the free preview and don’t buy the upgrade until you know how to make the changes you want.
