Show comments below posts

I’m editing a site for a professor who wants the comments her students leave on each other’s posts to be an integral part of the site. She wants the comments on each post to be visible underneath that post rather than behind a “leave a comment” or “# comment” link beneath the post. I understand this might be a theme issue (she picked Dara based solely on appearance), but is there any way to make the comments visible beneath the post without overriding all the design I’ve done?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Comments are open on all posts and pages by default.
Unless you use the P2 theme https://wordpress.com/theme/p2 or the P2 Breathe theme https://wordpress.com/theme/p2-breathe which are Twitter-like themes created for dialogue, the front pages of our blogs showcase content and comments are collapsed on that page.
The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display. You cannot change this.
In a new blog, one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog with many comments if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.
You can enable and disable comments on WordPress.com blogs on this page Dashboard > Settings > Discussion
That is where you set up defaults for comments and other comment options http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/Enable and Disable Comments for Published Posts and Pages
