RSS Feed Widgets & Google reader feeds

  • Hi,

I am trying to add a google reader rss feed on a couple of rss feed widgets on my blog and the links produced are wrong.

An example feed is this one: http://www.google.com/reader/public/atom/user/02759319068381834089/label/blooks

Whose bug is it? widget or google? (google feeds were introduced very recently).

    TIA

  • I don’t know for sure, but check the feeds in the widget. They appear to be putting your blog url before the feed url.

This is because you’ve missed the colon (:) from the http:// in the feed url.

  • Just checked it. The url is correct in the widgets.
    Thanks anyway Collin

  • are you sure?

Taking out your site url the feed address (copied from your blog reads:

    http//belledejour-uk.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_belledejour-uk_archive.html#114313655745961780

see, no : in the http…

  • I confirm that that feed is messed up. I just tried placing it on my test blog here and it’s royally mucked up.

I can’t get a RSS reader to work on my self hosted test blog so I can’t test it there.

Bloglines won’t take the link shown above.

I finally got an RSS reader to work over here. It’s not taking that link.

I’m voting for the issue being on Google’s side (especially since Bloglines isn’t taking it) but I can’t say that with 100% certainity. (My experience with RSS is limited)

  • Well, there you go!

I have even less experience with RSS than Mike so I’ll shut up! 8-)

  • Re-checked. urls are correct :) wish i could include a screendump here. Wish I could find an rss validator out there.

Will try alerting google as well on this.

    Thanks again

  • The W3C rss validator says: “This feed is valid, but may cause problems for some users.”

  • From looking at the error report, it looks like it’s minor stuff though. At the bottom of the page, it does specificlly say that it is a valid Atom 1.0 feed.

What I’m seeing though with that link is how all of the html had been encoded from the third line down. That makes me wonder if maybe that would be causing the issue.

I’ve gone ahead and submitted a Feedback to staff asking them to take a look at this thread. Again, I know very little about RSS and feeds. Hopefully we can get a response.

    Good luck,
    -drmike

  • Our RSS reader currently only works with Atom 0.3 and RSS 2.0 feeds, it will mess up on Atom 1.0 as you see above.

  • Thank you guys!
    Ευχαριστώ
