Responsive rendering issue
-
1:
I have redirected my custom domain to my WordPress page.
2:
Redirection is working. No issues
3:
However when I launch my page from mobile browser via the redirect, the page does not render as mobile (responsive) page and display the desktop view
4:
If the page is launched directly using link xxxxx.wordpress.com it renders fine, retaining responsiveness as deemed appropriate. The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Domain forwarding is not supported and will fail as our sites are not on permanent IP addresses. Did you purchase an upgrade entitling your to map to an existing domain?
IP Address For Domain Mapping https://en.support.wordpress.com/ip-addresses/#ip-address-for-domain-mapping
How domain mapping works
Registering an underlying .wordpress.com URL first is required for domain mapping. What domain mapping does is providing a seamless redirect to the very same content under the new domain URL when a person clicks the old URL .wordpress.com to the original content. It can take up to 72 hours for domain propagation to take place throughout the internet but it doesn’t usually take that long. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
There are 3 ways to add a custom domain to your blog. Please note that an active WordPress.com plan is required to add a custom domain to your site. https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#getting-startedWordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ The domain or mapping of any existing domain URL is included in the pricing for a personal upgrade, a premium and a business upgrade. The WordPress.COM upgrade for mapping a domain must be renewed annually.
Please go to https://wordpress.com/pricing/ to upgrade.

@timethief
Thank you for responding.
Probably I should have written ‘domain forwarding
‘ instead of ‘redirection
‘.
Domain ‘www.saptadeep.com
‘ is set up to forward (requests) to ‘https://saptadeep.wordpress.com
‘.
Given this clarification, do you still feel that it won’t serve mobile appropriate templates correctly. -
Domain forwarding is not supported and will fail as our sites are not on permanent IP addresses. Read: IP Address For Domain Mapping https://en.support.wordpress.com/ip-addresses/#ip-address-for-domain-mapping

@timethief The text in the link you shared, does not apply to my issue. I haven’t mapped (forwarded) to a particular IP. So even if WordPress changes IP, the forward will work.
My issue is about serving of mobile appropriate templates (pages). -
The issue is perhaps due to the fact that the information that a viewer has launched the page using a mobile browser is not passed on to WordPress’s (WP) app-server. It gets lost at the point of forward. So WP cannot determine what template to serve and ends up serving the one meant for desktop.

Hi @saptadeep, you’re using a framed redirect. The hidden frame can cause all kinds of odd issues with the site – including trouble with linking and SEO.
If you use a non-framed redirect does this issue go away?
-
@supernovia Thanks! Yes, it did work.
Of course my provider callsframed redirect
differently.
Further, Using ‘we’ in responses, is impersonation of WP….you may want to moderate/review posts by the other poster, who led me on an altogether different trail ….similar posts on other topics too (I peeked a few).

@saptadeep I’m glad that was it. They probably called it a “stealth redirect” or a “cloaked redirect” or I’m sure there are a number of other things. It is just a big frame though that displays your site. And I’m guessing something in that was tricking the site into thinking it was displaying on a larger screen.
Can I recommend mapping instead? You’d need a paid plan, but your domain would work seamlessly once it’s set up. And you get other features too.
RE: the use of “we” I’m sure she meant “we” as in the two of you working on that together, but thank you; I can see how that would be confusing. I’ll see if I can update our volunteer guide with that suggestion. Cheers :)

Resolved by ‘supernovia’. Awesome interaction with supernovia. Thanks
@All_WP_Staff:
You should moderate your volunteers’ posts. Few might be doing disservice to WP. -
