Registering a new blog doesn’t allow you to select a .WordPress.Com ending anymore?

  • Hello, was trying to create a new blog but I wanted one with the. WordPress.Com ending (like all my others) but the only free one I could select was. .Home.Blog is there a way of registering using the old endings? Thank you

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi Suzy. Hope you’re well. :)

When you create a new site at https://wordpress.com/start/site-type pick Business or Professional rather than Blog and follow the prompts for the free site options. That should give you the .wordpress.com address option. Let us know how that goes.

There are lots of new dotsomethingdotblog subdomains. https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2018/11/28/announcing-free-dotblog-subdomains/ If you would rather have one of those, you can create a new site by highlighting the domain (like art.blog) and opening it in a new tab or window while logged in with your account. On the page that opens, click the link “Start your x.blog” and the chosen subdomain will be used while you create your new site.

All new sites created have the block editor enabled by default. If you prefer to use the Classic Editor, you’ll need to change themes to one of the older themes and then follow this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/#frequently-asked-questions and expand “Will I still be able to use the old editor?”

    Hope that helps.

  • Also, just in case you have already registered a dotsomethingdotblog address and you want to change that to the dotwordpressdotcom address, try using the Change Address utility to do that.

Go to your dotsomethingdotblog dashboard Manage>Domains https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/ click on the right arrow next to the site address and on the next screen you’ll see the Change Site Address box.

Even though it looks like the line is prefilled with the address you want, type out the first part of the address on the left side and change the extension to .wordpress.com using the drop down menu on the right. If the wordpress.com address is available, the “Change Site Address” button will activate.

You can use this utility to change from dotsomethingdotblog to dotwordpressdotcom but not the other way around.*

Again, let us know how that goes.
