"Read More" tag not working
-
Hello everyone,
Recently, around July 28, 2020, the “Read More” tag seemed to have stopped working, as in people who are subscribed to my blog can see the whole post in their emails. I am using the free “Twenty Fourteen” theme and I make sure to place the “Read More” tag on a post and not a page.
Is there a way I can make the “Read More” tag work again? Or is this a sign I have to change theme?
Thank you for your time.

Hi @sleepchaser, that’s odd — the emails should have just been showing the excerpt or the full post all along. If this started on the 28th though, we may be able to find more information. They showed everything before the Read More before that, correct? Can you let us know how long that had worked that way for you?

Hi supernova,
Thank you for the quick response. I think I started to use the Read More tag around May 26, 2020. And the tag worked fine at that time, only showing everything above the Read More tag in the emails. Once July 28th came, the whole post would be shown in emails sent to my subscribers, even though I used the Read More tag.
I just tested it out again, and the tag still seems to not work for me.

Does it work as desired if you set your feed to show Summary instead of Full Text? https://wordpress.com/support/settings/reading-settings/

Ah, I went to my feed settings and the “limit feeds to only excerpts” wasn’t ticked on. I ticked it on, ran a test post, and now the Read More excerpt works!
Thank you macmanx and justjennifer! You guys are amazing.

I’m glad that was it! I recalled the other thread and wondered whether that would work for you. Happy to hear it did. :)
