Questions about WordPress.com Jetpack Video Storage

  • I have about 30TB of video storage and I am planning of hosting it on WordPress.com.I would like to know more about the specific limits of this storage plan.

Unlimited video uploads at a fixed price. Don’t worry about exceeding bandwidth limitations, or being surprised by fluctuating pricing. Jetpack video hosting is a worry-free, cost-effective solution that’s included with a Premium or Professional plan.

For this feature, what is the maximum size limit for a video.is it 1GB or 4GB,most of my videos are 5GB and 6GB in size.

Unlimited video uploads meaning there is no limit to the uploads in one day, like I can upload 100000+ videos all of 4GB in size to wordpress?

Developers can control the look and feel of the video player — not always possible with third-party services.

Can I control the “Save As” feature?,some of my videos are copyrighted(by me) and I want share them without people downloading them, including the use of developer tools finding the .mp4 link on the wordpress website.

Flexible file formats. Jetpack video hosting supports everything from MP4 and Quicktime to MPEG and 3GPP — so you don’t have to worry about converting file formats.

How long is the processing time, are you displaying the true file or just converting it to an mp4.What sort of compression technique are you guys using?

    Finally,

    Is there a storage limit?
Jetpack includes unlimited video hosting. Please note that there is a 2TB soft-limit on storage to ensure legitimate use. If this limit is reached, please reach out to Jetpack support and we can increase it for you.

How much storage will you increase it to,I take the word unlimited to be literally unlimited?.What is Legitimate use,Well I dont plan on hosting movies on wordpress as they are the largest files in my collection and it will take forever to process(>40GB per movie)
    Thanks.

  • Hello again, Are you referring to a self-hosted site using the open source WP software with the Jetpack plugin installed or a site hosted here on WPcom?

If your site is hosted here on WPcom, then the upper end WPcom plans, Business and eCommerce, have a 200GB storage limit https://wordpress.com/pricing/

I’ve also gone ahead and flagged this thread for Staff attention and input.

  • Thank you for your response, but I have to disagree with you that the upper limit for wordpress.com for Videos is 200GB.Since on WordPress.com,I read somewhere that 200GB is not inclusive of video storage.Thank you for your input @justjennifer.

  • Since on WordPress.com,I read somewhere that 200GB is not inclusive of video storage.

Hello again, it would be helpful to know where you read that. Thanks.

Meantime, here’s what it says under the VideoPress FAQs:

How much space do I get for videos?

Your space allotment for videos is based on the plan that you’ve selected. For example, the WordPress.com Premium plan provides you with 13GB of storage space. The Business and eCommerce plans allot 200 GB of storage space for your site.

  • One other thing, I seem to recall that VideoPress did not support closed-captioning, but I do not know if that is still the case. It would be great if Staff could update on that point as well as the storage space question. TIA

  • Hi, I can double check if you’d like, but a site that is hosted here currently has a 200GB limit on storage (edit: according to this at least)

Jetpack Video for a site hosted elsewhere is another question. If you’re interested in that we can do some checking on whether that’s really infinite storage.

  • I realized that page I linked isn’t firmly clear, so we’ll do more digging and update you in this thread.

And, I found the answer about captioning here:
    https://github.com/Automattic/jetpack/issues/6350

  • And,

I read somewhere that 200GB is not inclusive of video storage.

If you can send a link to that, I’d appreciate that as well. Thanks!

  • Okay. This article is about space upgrades that allow video and what not. It recommends file sizes at 1GB or smaller, so 4-6GB videos would not be recommended in this case.

    Here is the link

    Video Hosting for WordPress Sites

I assume since jetpack is installed on all wordpress.com websites by default and there if I buy a plan on jetpack that means I get infinite video storage on a wordpress, com account?.I am a little confused here,is Jetpack a Video CDN of a Video storage Solution,or both?.

    @supernovia

    I see,so I cannot upload larger than 1GB

I am wondering what wordpress users recommend for a infinite video storage solution besides Youtube that meets all the requirements of large file size limit(>80GB per file) and has no length of video limits that involves little programming and doesnt cost me a lot(<$USD 300) per year)

Thank you fellow wordpressers for your valuable input

  • Hello again, the Jetpack features pre-installed on WPcom https://wordpress.com/support/plugins/#built-in-plugins are different from the full Premium Jetpack plugin for self-hosted WP sites https://jetpack.com/features/

How much does video hosting cost?
Video hosting is provided as part of the Jetpack paid plans starting at $9 per month (or just $99 annually).

It might be possible to install the full Jetpack plugin here if your site is on the WPcom Business or eCommerce plan, but I believe the cost of a Premium Jetpack plan (US$99/year) would be on top of what you’d pay for the WPcom plan itself. So that would mean US$400/year to have unlimited video storage here.

Alternatively, you could opt to run a site using the WP software on 3rd party hosting and then go for the Premium Jetpack Plan.

I might be blowing smoke here, so I’d wait to hear back from Staff before making any decisions.
