Problems understanding the different blogs

I’m looking for a site to post more like a journal online not for others to see or selected people to see. Is this possible with one of your options?

Yes, that’s possible with any of the themes in the Themes Showcase. You might find the selection of themes filtered for the subject “journal” more suitable than others, though the Twenty Sixteen theme that is activated on the site may be fine. See https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/journal. Instructions on how to make a site private so that no one or only invited followers can view the site, see the Privacy Settings support page.
