Problem with "New PostingExperience" and Twenty Fourteen Theme

  • I use the Twenty Fourteen Theme and feature 6 posts on my first page using the “feature” tag when posting. Since WordPress has switched from the classic Dashboard to its “New Posting Experience” the feature tag is not working to post the blog entry to my front page. The only workaround that I have found is to go to my posts and do a Quick Edit, if I simply apply Quick Edits with the “feature” tag it immediately updates my blog.

So, could you please fix the New Posting Experience so it is compatible with featured posts in Twenty Fourteen?

I hope I have explained myself well enough, please let me know if you need other info.

  • Hi there. I’ve tagged this thread for staff to follow up. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting.

  • Hi!

I just tried to add a tag of “feature” to a post from the new editor:

It seems to have stuck once I published the post:

Is this only with the tag “feature” or with any tag that you try to add from the New Editor?

  • I’m not sure I fully understand what you are asking – and after looking at your screen shots we may not be having the same problem.

All of the tags in my posts ‘work’ in that they are associated/searchable with the post when I create it. However, in Twenty Fourteen the “feature” tag designates whether or not the post will show up as a Featured Item (https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/twentyfourteen/). My problem occurs when publishing through the New Editor. Including the “feature” tag does not make the new post a Featured Item.

  • Thanks for clarifying! I thought the issue was with applying tags via the new editor.

Looking at your latest post “2014 in Review : A Good Year!,” that post does have the “feature” tag applied. It’s also showing in the featured slider here:

Can you point me to a post that you’ve recently published with the “feature” tag that is not displaying in your slider?

  • I would have to publish a new post to do that. Once I apply a work around of applying Quick Edits (My Sites Menu –> Posts –> Quick Edits–>Update) the Featured content displays just fine. At this time I have used this workaround for all posts.

So, just to hopefully clarify. If I include the “Feature” tag when posting through the New Editor the tag is included with the post, but does not feature the content in the slider. I have to go to Quick Edits and simply click “Update” in order for the content to be featured in the slider.

The next time you post something with the “feature” tag through the New Editor, could you reply back here before editing the post with the Quick Edits module? I’d like to see this in action as I’m unable to reproduce this behavior on my side!

  • I have just published this post : http://ianajohnson.com/2015/01/17/january-17th-alaskan-snapshot/. It includes the “feature” tag, but as you’ll see it doesn’t show up in the slider.

  • As of this morning the post is now featured on the slider. It seems that it takes awhile for the New Editor to sync with the site. So, perhaps there is not a problem at all, just an inconvenience.

  • Great! I’m glad it popped up in the slider. If this happens again, please reply back with the post URL and let me know. Sorry I missed the previous post!
