problem uploading files

  • For some reason, I can longer insert media/upload files that are saved on my computer. When I try to add a picture I keep getting an error.

Here’s what happens…when I am editing my posts and want to add a photo (that I have already saved on my computer), I hit the “add media” button and then select the file. (always a jpeg, that works on other sites) Then I get the following error message:

    Error file_18ljh7l…9471eoi1r0dh
This file type is not allowed. Please try another.

Very frustrating, as adding photos by url is next to impossible.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Any help at all would be appreciated.

  • Try .jpg instead of .jpeg.

  • I’ve tried both, and neither is working. I get an error whatever I use, nothing I have saved in my documents will work.

  • I have the same issue!

Anything recently updated on WordPress.com made the things worse.
Also, the resizing wizard (100-90-80, etc.) was a perfect solution. Its gone now!!!

The new default resizing options are too few in the popup image properties window. Although, its possible to resize the image frame by altering the frame box while editing (or alternatively giving parameters in the popup image properties).

On editing, changing the image size from a smaller preview to a larger one causes the image showing up blurred (no resampling) despite it has no negative effect on the post. But annoying!

    Any workaround would be appreciated.

  • I am not sure whether the Firefox 29 causes the problem or not, but relogging in WordPress account seems to be worked for uploading files.

    Maybe a cache or a java/flash issue?

    Troubleshooting Image Uploads

  • Dear timethief,

Thank you very much for your reply!

    Yes, that’s correct. (http://eishaki.wordpress.com/)

    I upload .jpg/.jpegs only.

The resizing wizard (100-90-80, etc.) should be back somehow. It was a very good solution to put most of the images same size when needed. Otherwise its difficult for me.

  • Hey everyone!

brainhammer: Please send us an email and attach the image you’re having trouble with. This will allow me to investigate the problem more thoroughly.

openreel: Are you also having problems uploading images? Or is your question about a certain feature in the image editor?

To maintain the quality of your images, it would be best to resize your images to the exact size you want to display them in prior to uploading. You may do this in an image editing software such as Irfanview or Picasa. That way you wouldn’t have to rely on WordPress to resize them for you.

  • Dear druesome,
    Thanks for your attention.
I had uploading issues since last week, but after the “log out” and “log in” sessions, it seems its gone (back to normal).
I insist on bringing back the image resizing default values (seen vertically on the left like … 110 100 90 80 … on the popup image props window).
When I resize the images with the 3rd party stuff like Irfanview, I won’t have the alternative when I want to resize the image bigger on re-editing processes. Contrary, I upload my images bigger enough in size to the WordPress Media Library to be able to resize them when needed. Otherwise every time I should resize my image with another app and upload to the Library. Yes, this a solution still, but not practical. Also I had never any issue with the former image possibilities on WordPress.

Is gone – but you can use the custom size and change the size of the image – just adjust the pixel size on one dimension and the other dimension changes to keep the same ratio

  • Hey openreel,

Unfortunately that option has been removed. Would be best to resize your images as what auxclass suggested. Here’s a support page that can guide you:

    Sorry about that!
