Options for customising/upgrading

  • Hi All,

I am pretty new to WordPress but I’ve got the hang of it so far. I’d like to have the option to further customise my blog and play around with its design, but I don’t want to go too far into the deep end as I need to learn everything as I go along.

I have some spare time coming up in which to learn, but would love some suggestions as to my best options.

As I see it my options are, custom css or wordpress.org? I have also seen a lot of sites I like run on the Thematic Theme Framework, silly question, but is this just a theme designer for .org? Also, on custom css, just how much can you change, I played around with different font sizes etc but can you actually move sections of the page around and do clever things like make buttons?

Any suggestions on the next progression I should take would be great, thanks!

    James

That’s correct. Provided you do have CSS editing experience as there is no Staff support for the upgrade you can change appearance bu not functionality of the free themes here. All CSS editing at wordpress.com is theme specific and the only themes we can use are found here > Appearance > Themes

Please read this entry very carefully knowing the upgrade is not recommended to those who do not have at least moderate understanding of CSS. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-css/

  • To view what has already been done with others using CSS editing on the same theme ie. Twenty Ten you can do forum searches.
