Mr. Linky widget app

  • For the past few days members of the blog – Mindlovesmisery’s Menagerie have been unable to use the Mr. Linky app. It appears in the editor and also in the notifications, but it doesn’t appear once the post is published. Asking them to look into the problem we got this reply:

    There seems to be a relatively new feature of wordpress.com that is trying to cache images and effectively defeats the ability of bloggers to use widgets like ours. To see what I mean, go to your post and tell your browser to display the source of the page. Then search for “blenza.com” – you’ll need to search a few times to get past the meta tags and arrive at the part that represents the widget. When you get there you’ll see that wordpress.com has changed your widget code into this:

    <img src=”https://i0.wp.com/www.blenza.com/linkies/graphic.php?owner=Bastet&postid=11Jan2015&meme=ss” alt=”” border=”0″ />

    do you see what they’ve done? they’ve replaced that IMG location with something of their own – that i0.wp.com part is their attempt to cache images and in this case, it just doesn’t work.

    I’m not a wordpress.com user, so I’m unfamiliar with this feature and how to disable it, but turning it off is what you would have to do to make Mister Linky’s Magical Widgets work with wordpress.com.

    Best regards,
    Mister Linky

    So what do we have to turn off to be able to use this linking tool?
