Missing a translation widget or so

  • Does WP.com Staff pretend to provide some live translation tool for blogs (sidebars or so), like Google Translate and/or Bing Translate?

It’s really discouraging not to be allowed to grab any external code and, up to date, not to have available any translating tool in order to support foreign guests.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • WordPress.com is a type of shared environment, where all users are running off of the same software. This is great because it allows Automattic to update millions of blogs at the same time with a single click. It means they can fix bugs or offer new features very quickly, which is a win for us as users. Having all users running on the same software can also be dangerous. If they aren’t careful, one user has the potential to take down the entire site. So this is why they need to limit some of the things you post on your blog.

If you wrote some code or pasted it in from another web site and then it disappeared after publishing the post, the code is likely being stripped out. If you feel it’s being stripped out improperly or if you would like to suggest additional types of code they should allow, please contact support.

Users are not allowed to post JavaScript on WordPress.com blogs. JavaScript can be used for malicious purposes. As an example, JavaScript has taken sites such as MySpace.com and LiveJournal offline in the past. The security of all WordPress.com blogs is a top priority, and until they can guarantee scripting languages will not be harmful, it will not be permitted.

JavaScript from trusted partners, such as YouTube and Google Video, is converted into a WordPress shortcode when a post is saved.

However, there is a workaround created by one of the member here @timethief, you can take a look at https://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/

  • Been requested numerous times.

I’ve also tagged this for Staff (as they have requested) so to keep track of feature requests.

  • Hello ebraelshaddai!

Like @elte said, there isn’t a translator widget, you can check the link above with the workaround instructions.

I’ve passed this thread to our team, thanks! :)

  • re: workarounds

Automatic translation is not available to WordPress.com blogs. We bloggers do not have FTP access to blogs hosted by WordPress.COM and we bloggers cannot install any plugins, we cannot use Microsoft or Google translation widgets or any others, as they are JavaScript and it’s stripped out to preserve security on this multiuser blogging platform. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascript

However, I have translation on my WordPress.com blogs. There are two workarounds and you will find them here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/

Note: You can create a page https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ then and copy and paste the code on my Translations page here http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/translation/ Be sure to replace every occurrence of my blog’s URL in the code with your own blog’s URL.

If you are bilingual or multilingual and want to publish your free hosted WordPress.com in two or more languages but do not want to rely on machine translation that can be done see here > http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2013/02/25/wordpress-com-multilingual-blogs/

    Set Up a Multilingual Site

  • Hi everybody!

Came to thank you all for aid. I’m gonna try out thw workaround above. Nonetheless, I and many others would like to see further more trusted codes coming into WP shortcodes. I shall keep watching news.

Please, Staff, deal friendly with this issue! :D

So long and have all of you a nice weekend!

  • ebraelshaddai, I’ll pass along your suggestion. Thanks! :)
