-
Beginning today, everyone commenting on our blog has to sign in twice. We can’t stay logged in, Have to log in over and over. Something happened? We don’t like it. We want it back the other way. HELP!!!
WP.com: Yes
Jetpack: No
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

This is what we see. I log in, then in order to comment, have to log in again. Once you close the page, next visit, have to log in again, twice. Getting lots of complaints from our users.

>Looking at your site finsmobunleashed it seems you require users to be logged in to comment. This is what I see.
If you want to change that setting, head to Settings>Discussion and under “other comment settings” uncheck “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” then save your settings.
Firefox in general has a long-standing cookie issue with WordPress.com sites with a Custom Domain. It’s nothing that can be mitigated from this side. Users must click the shield in the browser address bar and turn off Enhanced Tracking Protection for your site.
>The screenshot in your second post shows that you’re logged in. Can you leave a comment or are you required to log in again to post it?
-
OK-taking it one step further, this is what I see after disabling FF enhanced protection and while I’m already logged in to WPcom, which means I’m not able to post a comment without logging in a second time..
Let us know if there’s any difference after changing that setting in Settings>Discussion

I typically use my iPhone to access the site, I use safari. I know some use Firefox. It’s happening for everyone no matter what they use and seemed to have started this on Tuesday. We do require users to be approved first, hold the first comment in moderation and once approved, they are good to go. We do that to prevent trolls. I signed out to try to comment, screenshot below. Something happened between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
No clue what it is. -

Was that meant to be “comments” rather than users?
Can you look at your Settings>Discussion to see whether “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” is activated or not. Let us know. Thanks.
Regardless, I’ve flagged your thread for Staff attention.

Where can I find Settings/Discussion? I know it’s a stupid question but I’m not seeing it. I’m an accountant, this is all new territory for me. We just want this to be back the way it was on Monday.

Have a look here:
In your website’s Discussion Settings, you can control how people interact with your site through comments. This guide will explain each setting. Access Your Discussion Settings To visit the Discussion Settings: Visit your site’s dashboard. On the left side, hover your mouse over Settings near the bottom. Select Discussion. Settings → Discussion Default Article SSpecifically under “Comments”
Users must be registered and logged in to comment: If this option is enabled, only logged-in WordPress.com users will be allowed to leave comments. If it is not checked, any visitor can leave a comment.
Waiting to hear back from you.

Yes, we’ve always had it that way. This issue started a few days ago. We don’t know why. I don’t think that setting is causing it since it’s been that way from the start as far as I know.
-
I see that there are comments here where people are having login issues while commenting from their phone and mostly iPhones?
OK-I’ve re-added the tag for Staff assistance on this issue. If the problem goes away in the meantime, please let us know.
-
And Staff, just adding my experience:
I clicked the “You must be logged in to comment” link at the bottom of the post, which took me to the “Log in with your account” page where I clicked continue with this account. That resent me to the post and I again encountered the “You must be logged in to comment”. FF latest, Win10Pro PC.
-
Hey folks, I can confirm I see the same issue on my iPhone, so I’ll get a bug report in. Thank you for letting us know!

First, every time you leave the site, you have to log back in to comment/reply.
Secondly, when you start to type the reply, you see thisThen before you can post it you see this
Something changed. Not sure what, it wasn’t this way before, it’s been a week or two. Please advise how to fix this. It’s annoying everyone.
Thanks! -
Hi, I am having trouble logging in to my account @hngeparti
I have not used the account in many years and there were a few different blogs connected to it.
I tried to log in today, and I could remember both the account name and the password, but when i typed it in, it said my “account was locked for security reasons” and i needed to change my password.
Problem is, I don’t remember what email account was connected to the account, or if i still have access to that email account.
I checked a couple old email accounts I had, but they did not receive the recovery email, and I was not told which email account the password reset was being sent to.
Is it possible for me to at least be told the first and last letter of the email account (such as (email visible only to moderators and staff) for instance) that way I would know which email account to check, and if I still have access to it.
-
I racked my brain thinking about old email accounts I’d used in 2010, when @hngeparti was created, and that is how I logged in to this account, which i had forgotten about.
I’m coming up blank in terms of what other email account it could have been.
The previous few years i had used that account, I would just log in typing the username and password, not the email.
I did remember both the username and password on the first try today, but I was blocked from opening the account until i had changed my password using a link sent to whatever email account I had originally used to create the accoount.

Hey @herdfan
Many thanks for reaching back out.
First, every time you leave the site, you have to log back in to comment/reply.
It looks like this is happening on a mobile browser, to check, is that correct?
If yes, when another tab is open, are you logged into WordPress.com? Also, is this happening on any other devices?
Many thanks!

It happens on any device. Laptop, mobile, iPad, iPhone, android. EVERYTHING! Have to login at least twice, sometimes more.
